A godmother filled with warmth and love.

At an age when children are still too young to understand the fullness of life, losing a loved one is a pain and a loss that is difficult to overcome for any child. Therefore, through networking and fundraising efforts, the Women's Union branches at all levels throughout the district have strived to provide as much support as possible to give these children emotional support.

The Women's Union of Phuoc Vinh Dong commune, Can Giuoc district, supports orphans through the Godmother Program.

As one of the units with the highest number of sponsored children in the district, the Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Phuoc Vinh Dong commune, Can Giuoc district - Vo Thi Ngoc Huong - informed: The Union sponsors 21 orphaned children (including one child from Tan Tap commune orphaned due to the Covid-19 pandemic), of which 8 are directly sponsored. All funding comes primarily from donations. This contributes to alleviating their suffering, sharing their burdens, and encouraging them to strive for a better life.

Tran Thi Yen Loan's family (Dong Binh hamlet) has five siblings. Her father passed away due to a serious illness , and her mother abandoned them. The Phuoc Vinh Dong Commune Women's Union has been sponsoring her for about two years now. Every month, the Union provides her with money and necessities. Loan shared: "Every day, I go to school, cook, and teach my younger siblings. Without family nearby, I am so grateful for the support from the Women's Union members in the commune and hamlet, as well as other benefactors!"

In response to the "Godmother Program" supporting, caring for, and nurturing disadvantaged children and those orphaned due to Covid-19, the Women's Union of Can Giuoc district has actively carried out many practical support activities. Through these efforts, they have brought love and motivation to these children, helping them to overcome difficulties in life and partially compensating for the lack of family affection they have experienced.

With the motto "Wherever there are orphans and children in particularly difficult circumstances, there is a godmother," the Women's Union of the district, in coordination with local branches, surveys and assesses the current situation of orphans and children in difficult circumstances in the area to provide the most practical assistance; at the same time, it promotes propaganda to raise awareness among Women's Union members and the concern of society for the care and protection of children, especially orphans.

According to Huynh Thi Tuyet Hong, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Can Giuoc District, unfortunate children who have lost their parents lack both material and emotional support. The love, sharing, and encouragement from society, however small, are invaluable to these children.

Currently, the Women's Union at all levels is sponsoring 29 children orphaned by Covid-19 and 19 other orphans. Through the connections between the Women's Union at the district, commune, and town levels and benefactors, along with the enthusiastic participation of its members and officials, from 2021 to the present, the Union has donated gifts, scholarships, bicycles, essential goods, school supplies, uniforms, and cash totaling over 1 billion VND to orphans. In addition to providing material support, the "godmothers" and the Women's Union at all levels also regularly visit and care for the children's emotional well-being and education.

In addition, to ensure a stable and timely source of funding to support children in emergency situations when needed, the Association has implemented a piggy bank savings model and a godmother-to-child program in 15 communes and towns with 112 members, totaling nearly 400 million VND in savings.

The Sponsorship Program has gradually proven effective in leveraging the internal strengths of the active contributions of officials and members of the Women's Union, spreading throughout the community and demonstrating the humanity and responsibility of the Women's Union at all levels in caring for and protecting orphaned children in the district. This support will help the children gain more strength to overcome difficulties and to study and develop in a safe and loving environment.
