Previously, the more than 500m² of garden land belonging to Ms. Tran Thi Thuy's family (Long Son village, Duc Tho commune) was mainly used to grow vegetables, which had low economic value. In recent years, starting from mid-August, Ms. Thuy has replanned this area and invested in growing chrysanthemums for Tet (Lunar New Year) with many varieties and colors, bringing noticeable results.

Ms. Thuy shared: " The entire garden currently has over 5,500 chrysanthemum plants that are entering their blooming period. This year's chrysanthemums are growing well, with even foliage, strong branches, and large buds; if conditions are favorable, they will sell well during the Ông Công, Ông Táo (Kitchen God) ceremony and the Lunar New Year. The price for each type ranges from 4,000 to 4,500 VND per plant, and customers who buy in large quantities directly from the garden will get a better price ."

Many diverse types of flowers are being grown by people in Long Son, the "flower capital," to serve the Tet market this year, such as: peony chrysanthemums, red and yellow cluster flowers, purple orchids, four-season flowers, ruby flowers, etc.

Each vibrant flower is the result of many days of meticulous cultivation and care. Therefore, when admiring the blooming garden, Ms. Thuy couldn't hide her joy: “ If the weather is favorable, after deducting expenses such as seedlings and fertilizers, my family can earn 15-20 million VND. This is a significant source of income, helping my family to have more resources for shopping and preparing for a more complete and warm Tet holiday .”

Not far away, Ms. Le Thi Nhung (Long Son village, Duc Tho commune) was also busy checking her family's blooming chrysanthemum garden, which is expected to be sold in the next few days. Ms. Nhung said: " My family planted over 300 square meters with nearly 3,500 plants. This year, the weather has been unpredictable, but thanks to our experience in caring for the plants, my flower garden is still thriving. Many traders have come to survey and place orders. The price of flowers is also considered to be similar to previous years. My family expects to earn about 10-12 million VND after deducting expenses ."

Many customers visit and buy flowers directly at the garden.

According to many households in Long Son village, previously, most gardens were primarily used for growing vegetables, but the economic efficiency was not high. After some households boldly experimented with growing Tet flowers and found them suitable for the local soil conditions, this model was adopted by many households in the village.

Besides retail and wholesale sales directly from the garden, many households in Long Son village also grow flowers in pots, choosing suitable sizes and shaping them neatly with even foliage, making them convenient for display during Tet (Lunar New Year). " Potted flowers are cared for more carefully, the blooming time is better controlled, and they are sold according to orders, so the income has increased significantly, " shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Oanh (Long Son village, Duc Tho commune).

Visiting Long Son these days, the colors of Tet are clearly visible in every flower garden in full bloom. This is not only the result of days of diligent care but also the joy and hope of the people for a more prosperous Tet in their own hometown gardens.
In Duc Tho commune, there are currently more than 20 households growing Tet flowers, mainly concentrated in Long Son village. On average, each household cultivates from 300 to 1,200 square meters. Thanks to accumulated experience and the application of appropriate care techniques, each household is expected to earn between 12 and 25 million VND after each Tet flower season. This is an effective economic development direction that the local authorities are particularly interested in. In the coming seasons, the Farmers' Association of the commune will continue to coordinate and guide households to expand production scale, while also experimenting with more new flower varieties.
