"Godmother" of orphans

The "Godmother" program, implemented by the Women's Association of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police since 2022, has provided care and support to 40 academically gifted students from disadvantaged backgrounds and orphaned children in the province.

With financial support ranging from 300,000 to 500,000 VND per month and a commitment to support them until they complete high school and reach the age of 18, the "Godmother" program has become a pillar of support, helping these children overcome adversity, excel in their studies, and strive to become useful citizens for society.

Nguyen Xuan Thien An (residing in Tu Ha ward, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province) was orphaned at a young age and is currently living with his uncle, making his path to school even more challenging. Upon hearing his story, the "Godmothers" of the Women's Association of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police Department extended their loving arms, taking care of, helping, and supporting An step by step to overcome his difficulties.

Ấn confided that her parents passed away early, making her life even more difficult now that her caregivers are gone. In particular, the risk of dropping out of school is increasing. “I am so happy that the police officers have shown me care and support, taking care of me and creating opportunities for me to go to school. I promise to study hard so as not to disappoint them,” Ấn shared.

Similarly, Ho Gia Bao (residing in Sia town, Quang Dien district, Thua Thien Hue province) is in extremely difficult circumstances. His father passed away when he was very young, and his mother later abandoned him. Bao was then raised and cared for by his paternal grandparents, but now both grandparents are old and frail, and frequently ill, making Bao's life even more difficult.

Recognizing Bảo's difficult circumstances, the Women's Association of the Thừa Thiên Huế Provincial Police Department has sponsored and cared for Bảo until she turns 18, hoping to instill confidence and strength in her to confidently pursue her education and future.

Bao shared that she feels very fortunate to have received care and support from the women's association of the Provincial Police, not only in material terms but also in providing constant encouragement. "They have helped me gain more motivation to study, to not be discouraged or give up in the face of difficulties and adversity," Bao confided.

According to the Women's Association of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police, in order for the "Godmother" program to spread widely, the unit has organized many practical programs to mobilize the participation of all levels of women's associations, as well as philanthropists, to jointly sponsor, support, care for, and nurture orphaned children in localities throughout the province.

Lieutenant Colonel Ho Thi Kim Hue, Deputy Head of the Women's Committee of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police, said that after nearly two years of implementation, the "Godmother" program has received strong support and participation from all levels of the Women's Association. In the coming time, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Police Women's Association, along with the grassroots associations, will continue to implement the program, striving to achieve the target of at least one orphaned child being sponsored by each local association.

The practical and meaningful activities implemented by the Women's Associations of the Thua Thien Hue Provincial Police in recent times have contributed to spreading and building a positive image of police officers as "courageous, humane, and dedicated to serving the people"; consolidating and strengthening the solidarity and close relationship between the police force and the people.
