Messi's appeal continues to break records
Messi just helped Chicago Fire FC welcome a record-breaking crowd at Soldier Field with 62,358 people watching, in a 0-0 draw with Inter Miami on April 14, also in the MLS (major league soccer). In the next away match against Columbus Crew, the Argentine star once again helped his opponent break the viewership record.

"A huge milestone. Thank you to the 60,614 fans who helped us set a new home attendance record in the club's history. This is also the largest attendance at a sporting event at Huntington Bank Field, not counting NFL games. This record is for the entire state of Ohio," the Columbus Crew announced on its social media account X.
Columbus Crew used to play at Lower.com Field, which only held about 20,000 spectators. But recently, they decided to move to Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio, which holds up to 67,431 spectators, to host Messi and Inter Miami. This team is using Messi's appeal to increase ticket revenue.
Besides, they also took advantage of the great support from the home crowd to put pressure on Messi and his teammates in the decisive battle for the top spot in the Eastern region of MLS.
Columbus Crew's efforts were unsuccessful, however, as Inter Miami won 1-0 thanks to the only goal scored by young star Benjamin Cremaschi in the 30th minute from Marcelo Weigandt's precise cross.

In this match, Coach Mascherano arranged Messi to play deep in Inter Miami's lineup to create opportunities and also to save energy. Striker Suarez played for about 67 minutes before being taken off.
According to coach Mascherano: "We need fresh legs. Suarez played a lot of minutes, so we brought Telasco into midfield and gave Messi more freedom. We also need to remember that Inter Miami still has another very important match in the middle of this week."
The win over Columbus Crew made Inter Miami the only team in MLS 2025 to remain unbeaten, with 5 wins and 3 draws. With 18 points, they climbed to the top of the MLS table, dethroning Columbus Crew while still having 1 match in hand.
However, Inter Miami's upcoming match is important, when they visit Vancouver Whitecaps FC in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup semi-finals, at 9:30 a.m. on April 25. Therefore, coach Mascherano really needs his big stars like Messi and Suarez to be healthy and fit.
