Messi has further expanded his already impressive collection of career records with a stunning performance at the 2026 World Cup. On the morning of June 17th, the 38-year-old superstar scored a hat-trick against Algeria, thus equaling Miroslav Klose's record for most goals in World Cup history with 16 goals.
However, according to his close teammate Rodrigo De Paul, Messi doesn't seem to care about the numbers or the personal milestones he constantly achieves.
"I swear to you he doesn't care. Absolutely not at all," De Paul asserted. The Inter Miami star said that his teammates are the ones who regularly remind Messi of his milestones. During breaks, the team sometimes enjoys a traditional Argentinian drink together and discusses the achievements M10 is about to reach.
"Sometimes we would sit together and tell Messi that he was just one or two goals away from breaking a record. But I'm sure Messi didn't even know about it," De Paul recalled.
De Paul's revelation further highlights Messi's difference from most of the world's top football stars. While many players strive for individual milestones to solidify their status, the owner of numerous prestigious individual awards seems to focus solely on playing and contributing to the team.
