(NLDO) - Cold air has caused the North to be immersed in severe cold. The temperature at Mau Son peak dropped to only 5 degrees Celsius; Dong Van ( Ha Giang ) was over 8 degrees Celsius.
Strong cold air strengthens, causing severe cold in the North
Due to the influence of the strong cold air, this morning (December 8), Hanoi's weather was not rainy but the Northeast monsoon was blowing strongly. Two meteorological stations in the suburbs, Son Tay and Ba Vi, recorded temperatures of over 15 degrees Celsius, while meteorological stations in Hoai Duc and Ha Dong recorded temperatures of over 16 degrees Celsius.
At the top of Mau Son mountain (Lang Son province) 1,600 m above sea level, the temperature dropped to only 5 degrees Celsius; Dong Van (Ha Giang) over 8 degrees Celsius; Tam Dao (Vinh Phuc), Trung Khanh ( Cao Bang ) 9 degrees Celsius.
In general, today, in the Northern region, it is cold, in mountainous areas there are places with severe cold; the lowest temperature in this cold air mass is generally from 14-17 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 11-13 degrees Celsius, in high mountainous areas there are places below 10 degrees Celsius. The North Central region is cold; the lowest temperature in this cold air mass is generally from 15-18 degrees Celsius. In Hanoi area, it is cold. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass is generally 14-17 degrees Celsius.
Due to the influence of cold air, the area from Ha Tinh to Phu Yen will have rain, showers, locally heavy rain and thunderstorms. Thunderstorms may cause tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said the North will continue to be immersed in cold air until December 10, after which temperatures will gradually increase. By December 12, a new cold air mass will strengthen and lower temperatures.
This is the fifth cold spell this winter. It is forecasted that in December, cold spells will increase in frequency and intensity, with severe cold spells likely to occur in the second half of the month.

The area from Ha Tinh to Hue today is cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some places experiencing heavy rain and thunderstorms. North to northwest winds at level 2-3, coastal areas at level 4-5. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind during thunderstorms. Lowest temperature 19-22 degrees. Highest temperature 24-26 degrees.
The area from Da Nang to Binh Thuan today is cloudy, with scattered showers, heavy rain and thunderstorms in some places. Northeast wind level 2-3. There is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind in thunderstorms. The lowest temperature is 22-25 degrees. The highest temperature in the North is 24-27 degrees, in the South is 27-30 degrees, some places are over 30 degrees.

Southern region today has scattered showers and thunderstorms. Northeast wind level 2-3. Lowest temperature 23-26 degrees. Highest temperature 30-33 degrees.
