In today's rapidly developing world , education is always considered the most important key to unlocking a bright future for individuals and society as a whole. However, in a society facing numerous challenges, learning not only encounters issues of educational quality but also of cost.
According to Dr. Cu Van Trung, Director of the Institute for Policy and Social Issues Research, the policy of waiving tuition fees is not only an economic solution but also a symbol of compassion and the State's concern for the younger generation.
Sow seeds of love
Information has emerged that the Politburo has decided to waive all tuition fees for students from preschool to high school in public schools nationwide starting from the 2025-2026 school year. What are your views on waiving tuition fees for students in the current context? Is this considered a major step forward for our country's education sector?
As a citizen and a parent with school-aged children, I find this policy very popular and correct. Waiving tuition fees demonstrates a far-sighted and in-depth concern for creating equal opportunities and ensuring accessibility for all groups and classes of people in society.
This move further enhances the Party's prestige and public goodwill. We have had periods where the people enjoyed similar benefits. In the 1960s and 70s, many revolutionaries, cadres, soldiers, and citizens received subsidized and free education from the State.
Many people later achieved considerable success thanks to the provision and care of such "socialist quality." The book "The Hard Years, the Years of Fond Memories" by writer Ma Van Khang contains passages expressing gratitude to the Party and the State for the superiority of the country's education during that period. Many people of that generation have become successful and continue to contribute to the nation.
Now, once again, the people are benefiting from a reasonable and compassionate policy: the exemption of tuition fees, which further reinforces the fundamental nature of our state as a state of the people, by the people, and for the people.
According to him, how would completely waiving tuition fees for students from preschool to high school in public schools affect the quality of education and the development of the younger generation?
Free tuition helps teachers and students in remote and disadvantaged areas to alleviate their worries and anxieties, and provides them with more opportunities for self-development. Ensuring equal opportunities and fairness among social strata, groups, regions, and citizens means that creating equality in access to education and learning is a great, noble, and responsible task for a state that prioritizes the people.
When teachers and students don't have to worry about tuition fees or "making ends meet," they will have more motivation. Along with other solutions such as new regulations on tutoring and supplementary classes, and on the issue of lifelong learning, tuition fee exemption will contribute to reforming the educational environment.
Furthermore, the tuition-free policy demonstrates the State's deep concern for the younger generation. It's not simply a financial solution, but also carries profound humanitarian value. It represents sharing and helping families in need, while simultaneously showcasing the State's faith in the country's future through investment in education.
A nation that wants sustainable development needs a strong education system where every student has the opportunity to learn and develop their full potential. The policy of free tuition sends a strong message, showing that the State not only views education as a tool for economic development but also as a means to protect the rights of future generations, helping them to thrive in life.
What impact will tuition fee exemption have on the accessibility of education for students in remote areas, especially those from disadvantaged families, sir?
As we have seen, socio-economic development in our country shows disparities between lowland and mountainous areas, between urban and rural areas, and many difficult circumstances still remain. To ensure equal opportunities and fairness among social strata, groups, regions, and every citizen, creating equality in access to education and learning is a great, noble, and responsible task for a state that prioritizes the people.
In particular, the cost of education is becoming a burden for many families, especially those in difficult circumstances. Meanwhile, the goal of education is to create equal opportunities for all students.
| "Education is not only a path to a stable job, but also a foundation for each individual's character development, life skills, and independent thinking abilities. The tuition-free policy opens the door to knowledge for all students, thereby creating equality in learning opportunities." |
The policy of waiving tuition fees therefore becomes a practical solution, helping to alleviate the financial burden on parents and students. This not only enables students to access quality education but also promotes equality in educational opportunities.
I believe that when all students, regardless of their region or background, have access to education, the future of the country will be brighter, as the talents and aspirations of the younger generation will not be hindered by economic barriers.
Only when every individual in society has unlimited, free access to education in their early years and up to the secondary level, are we truly moving towards a stable and sustainable society. This policy prevents people from feeling unsettled and insecure in today's highly competitive market economy, ensuring that "no one is left behind."
Ultimately, the policy of free tuition also reflected the wishes and aspirations of our beloved President Ho Chi Minh during his lifetime: that all citizens would have access to education and sufficient food and clothing.

According to him, waiving tuition fees could help alleviate the financial burden on parents, but would it guarantee the quality of education, especially given the current challenges that public schools face regarding facilities and teaching staff?
The quality of education depends on many factors, such as the curriculum in textbooks, the training of the teaching staff, the school's facilities, and the accessibility of each student, as well as the background and circumstances of each region and locality. The tuition fee reduction mentioned above has a positive significance.
In some respects, this policy also encourages education and sows seeds of love. Because a policy for the people, in an environment dedicated to "nurturing talent," there is no reason why it shouldn't sow more good seeds, healthy sprouts, and, more profoundly, faith and love for the regime and the country.
To ensure that every student benefits from the value of knowledge.
Could you assess the impact of tuition-free policies on educational equity, particularly between urban and rural areas?
I can sense the joy of the vast majority of people, especially farmers and workers across the country. While the amount of tuition fee exemption may not be much for urban residents, it has a very positive impact on disadvantaged families.
Many large families, orphans, and our compatriots in remote areas are even more determined to ensure their children can go to school and pursue education. Considering the macro-level considerations behind this policy decision, we are truly impressed by our Party and State.
While it might seem insignificant to individuals, considering the entire country and the number of students across four levels, balancing the budget appropriately is a considerable challenge. Therefore, its impact is far-reaching, highly valuable, and profoundly humane.

Education is not only a path to securing a stable job, but also a foundation for each individual's character development, life skills, and independent thinking abilities.
The tuition-free policy opens the door to knowledge for all students, thereby creating equality in educational opportunities. Without the worry of costs, students can focus more on studying, researching, and innovating.
Especially in today's era, with the ever-advancing technology and science, education is not simply about acquiring knowledge, but also about developing critical thinking, creativity, and teamwork skills. This knowledge will be crucial for students to face challenges not only in their studies but also in life.
In the long term, how will the tuition-free policy impact the development of the national education system?
In the long term, we will create generations of talented, capable, and kind young people. And the relationship between the people and the Party will become even deeper. I believe that the future development of education is also the development of the country.
By implementing synchronized and timely solutions regarding the quality of the teaching staff, training programs, and investment in school facilities for students, our education system will soon achieve many well-deserved accomplishments in the future.
Therefore, the policy of waiving tuition fees is a clear manifestation of the profound humanistic values in our education system. It not only alleviates the financial burden on students' families but also demonstrates compassion, sharing, and faith in the future of the country. Through this, the State affirms the importance of education while opening up a more equitable future where every student can access and benefit from the values of knowledge.
Thank you, sir!
