This year's February 2026 electricity bill coincides with the Lunar New Year holiday, resulting in higher electricity consumption for many households compared to January 2026. Upon receiving their February 2026 electricity bills, nearly 100 customers in the area called local power companies to request a review of their electricity usage figures.
To ensure transparency in every meter reading and every issued bill, electricity company staff directly measured meter readings with customers using smartphones via the remote metering function of electronic meters. After directly measuring and monitoring their actual household electricity consumption, customers gained a clearer understanding of their daily electricity intake.
Ms. Chu Thuy Binh (Le Loi Street, Dong Kinh Ward) stated: "After my family inquired about the electricity consumption reading for February 2026, the Lang Son Power Company staff checked and supervised the meter reading process with my family. Through guidance and joint monitoring, my family observed that the power company staff used electronic equipment to measure the electricity without tampering with the meter. Therefore, the meter reading was very transparent, and my family completely agrees with the readings."
Mr. Dao Xuan Thanh, Head of Lang Son Power Company, shared: Currently, Lang Son Power Company is responsible for supplying electricity to 4 wards and 4 communes (Dong Kinh, Ky Lua, Tam Thanh, Luong Van Tri, Cao Loc, Dong Dang, Ba Son, Cong Son) – an area with many customers with high electricity consumption. To ensure transparency, the unit's staff always strictly follow the meter reading process and closely monitor remote metering data.
In recent times, to increase transparency in electricity meter reading, Lang Son Power Company has focused on replacing almost all mechanical meters with electronic meters. Accordingly, to date, the 9 regional power branches under Lang Son Power Company have replaced 269,931 out of 270,166 operating meters on the grid with electronic meters.
Mr. Tran Xuan Quang, Head of Business Department, Lang Son Power Company, shared: The number of electronic meters with remote metering capabilities has almost covered all electricity customers in the province, helping to record electricity consumption automatically and objectively, minimizing errors. Data is monitored daily, and load profiles are analyzed to promptly detect unusual fluctuations. During monthly electricity bill readings, power company staff in each area strengthen the analysis of consumption by customer group; review cases with high increases compared to the previous month; and cross-check the process before issuing invoices.
The use of a centralized data collection unit (DCU) to collect and manage all electronic meters in a substation has enabled electricity company personnel to record the electricity consumption of each customer without directly interacting with the meter.
Mr. Vu Khanh Toan, Deputy Director of Lang Son Power Company, said: Implementing comprehensive digital transformation in the power industry, over the past five years, Lang Son Power Company has focused on deploying digital transformation in business and customer service. In particular, the "digitization" of electricity meter reading and recording has helped increase transparency in this "sensitive" area.
It is evident that Lang Son Power Company is striving to implement digital transformation in its business and customer service. This is demonstrated by the company providing electricity customers in the province with equipment, tools, and solutions that allow them to monitor and adjust their household electricity consumption, thereby increasing transparency in the electricity meter reading process.
