School education is a continuation of, but cannot replace, family education in building character and morality for students.

The Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the Party clearly stated: "Strengthening the education of the younger generation on revolutionary ideals, ethics, and cultural lifestyles; enhancing patriotism and national pride; nurturing aspirations and ambitions for advancement; upholding a sense of responsibility towards the country and society; building an environment and conditions for learning, working, recreation, and training to promote healthy, comprehensive, and harmonious development in intellect, physical health, and aesthetic values. Creating motivation for young people to be at the forefront in learning, creative work, entrepreneurship, and career development; mastering modern scientific and technological knowledge, and playing an important role in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland."

It can be said that the issue of moral and lifestyle education for students in the current period is timely and urgent in order to find educational measures to prevent deviant behaviors.

Below are the opinions of experts to help "pave the way" for moral education for students in today's era.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Viet Vuong ( Hanoi Pedagogical University): Building three "pillars" of education

Moral education is a crucial component of school education, contributing to the holistic development of students' personalities. Research into the theory and practice of moral and lifestyle education for students in the current period is timely and urgent. This research aims to identify educational measures to prevent deviant behaviors in students and improve the quality of general education.

There are many reasons leading to deviant behaviors in the ethics and lifestyles of students (due to the psychological and physiological characteristics of their age group; reasons from the family; the development of the Internet and social media; market mechanisms and globalization...).

To prevent deviant behavior among students, it is necessary to improve family education capabilities. The education sector should compile materials on family education, ethics, and traditional and modern lifestyles for students and parents to refer to.

Simultaneously, improve the quality of school education. Both science and practice confirm that the best way to educate students on ethics and lifestyle is through teaching science subjects to enhance their cognitive abilities and independent thinking. Improve the quality of teaching in social sciences, ethics, civics, history, etc. Coordinate among educational forces, building a close relationship between the three pillars: family - school - society to address potential situations that may arise for students.

It can be said that moral and lifestyle education for students needs to impact all three aspects: awareness, attitude, and behavior, helping them acquire sufficient knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to handle all situations in social relationships. Therefore, it is necessary to use diverse and engaging methods and forms of organization suitable to the psychological characteristics of students' age group. In particular, schools need to coordinate with families, the government, and local agencies and organizations to promptly detect deviant behaviors inside and outside the school, in order to find timely preventive and corrective measures.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Gia Cau (Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Teachers' Magazine): Creating "immunity" for students against evil.

Moral and lifestyle education is directly related to building a cultural environment and appropriate behavior in schools. Morality and lifestyle are the core of culture. Proper moral and lifestyle education, based on high social values, creates inner motivation in each student; it encourages them to study diligently, participate actively and voluntarily in movements, and develop self-resistance and immunity against negativity and evil.

This contributes to building healthy and humane social relationships, which are a decisive factor in creating the foundation of a healthy cultural environment and cultured behavior in schools.

Therefore, it is necessary to be more practical in building the relationship between schools and families. At the same time, families must pay more comprehensive and in-depth attention to the moral and lifestyle education of their young members. The coordination of education among the three environments—family, school, and society—should be deepened and made more systematic, minimizing school violence; and the relationship between teachers and students, and between schools and parents, needs to be transformed in a positive direction.

Mahatma Gandhi, the great national hero of India, once said: "There is no school like the family and no teacher like a parent." In my opinion, parental education is truly the most important. School education is merely a continuation and cannot replace family education in shaping the character of the younger generation.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Tuan (Deputy Director of the Institute for Research on Educational Cooperation and Development): Morality is the foundation!

In recent years, the reality of ethical and legal violations by students has been causing public concern. The number of violations has increased, involving offenders of all ages and educational levels; the severity of violations has also increased... In particular, the decline in ideology, the loss of faith, the indifference and apathy, and the reckless and deviant lifestyles of a segment of students are a worrying risk.

Given this situation, fundamental solutions are needed to prevent the risk of moral decline among students.

Firstly, we must build schools into true centers of moral education for students. Secondly, we must clearly define the purpose and function of the process of moral and character education for students in schools.

Third, reform the education curriculum, increasing the proportion of time and subjects dedicated to moral education in schools. Fourth, develop moral education content for each grade and level appropriate to the age group. Finally, diversify the methods and forms of organizing moral education in schools.

Improving the quality of moral education and preventing the risk of moral decline among secondary school students in the current context is an urgent task for secondary schools and the entire education sector. The fundamental solution to preventing moral decline among students is to thoroughly understand the educational philosophy of "First learn manners, then learn knowledge," truly placing virtue as the foundation in the development of current general education curricula and content.
