During the April 30 - May 1 holiday, many plum gardens in Moc Chau allowed visitors to visit and experience plum picking directly in the garden. According to some garden owners, the number of visitors to the gardens was quite large from morning to afternoon.

Visitors to the plum garden must pay an entrance fee of 40,000 to 50,000 VND, which includes picking and eating plums on the spot in any quantity they want. The price of plums to take home ranges from 70,000 to 80,000 VND per kilogram. The best time to visit the garden is from 8am to 10am, followed by lunch, according to some garden owners.

"This is the general price for this year's plum season, 10,000 to 20,000 VND higher than last year," said Hai Yen, owner of a plum garden in Cho Long hamlet, Nong Truong town, adding that when plums are in season, services may be discounted.

Bich Hanh plum garden, Truong Anh garden, Ngoc Chau, and Mung Hanh also let visitors experience plum picking on April 30.

However, Ms. Hai Yen also said that this year the plums ripened late, at this time every year the plum variety in Moc Chau is ripe red. Currently, there are few plums left and most are still green. The trees that have produced fruit are all off-season plums, small and slightly sour, but not bitter.

"This is a leap year, so the plum season will be one month later than usual. In addition, the plum blossom season at the beginning of the year is very beautiful, but because of the influence of frost after Tet, many newly formed fruits have fallen off. The plums will not ripen until the end of May," Ms. Hai Yen added.

Quang Kien, a tourism worker in Moc Chau, also said that plums are only in their off-season now, and it will be about two weeks before the plum gardens in Moc Chau really enter their beautiful season. Usually, many gardeners will provide full services of eating, sleeping and resting in the garden for tourists.
