Kings League, the 7-a-side football game that gained popularity thanks to the participation of streamers, content creators, and former football stars, is going through its most difficult period since its inception.
According to Spanish media, Kings Competition, the company that operates Kings League, is preparing to implement a large-scale layoff in Spain. Up to 41 employees are affected, equivalent to nearly half of the current workforce.
CEO Djamel Agaoua said the decision is part of a restructuring plan. Over the next six months, Kings League will focus its resources on developing a new product instead of maintaining its current operating model.
However, the staff offered a more pessimistic view. In a joint statement, they stated that the future of the league in Spain is in serious doubt.
According to the affected workforce, the loss of experienced personnel could make the plan to restart the league after six months difficult to implement.
Not only in Spain, but officials have also revealed that the Kings League in France and Germany will also be temporarily suspended with no return date yet determined.

Recently, Pique's business dealings have been plagued with problems. |
This means that many freelance workers currently employed within the Kings League ecosystem in those two countries are also at risk of losing their jobs.
The employees also criticized the management for painting an "overly optimistic" picture of the current situation. They said they were asked to maintain confidentiality during negotiations to avoid damaging the brand image with potential sponsors and investors.
Launched with the backing of Gerard Pique and the Kosmos company, the Kings League was once considered one of Europe's most successful football entertainment projects. However, large-scale staff cuts indicate that this model is facing significant challenges in its development.
