The Argentinian superstar will face PSG for the first time since leaving the French club in the summer of 2023.

Messi will reunite with his former club PSG at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™

On the morning of June 24th, Inter Miami drew 2-2 with Palmeiras, failing to take the top spot in Group A of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™. This result means Messi and his teammates will face the Group B leader, PSG, in the knockout round.

PSG is Messi's former club from 2021-2023. The Argentine superstar was expected to help the Ligue 1 club win the Champions League for the first time in history. However, after two seasons, PSG were eliminated in the round of 16. Messi also left PSG in the summer of 2023 to join Inter Miami.

Messi faced a wave of outrage from PSG fans after he criticized his former club. M10 shared on Apple Music : "I wasn't happy with what I was going through every day, from training to matches. I struggled to adapt to everything there."

In another interview, Messi complained that PSG seemed indifferent, unwilling to honor him after Argentina's World Cup victory. PSG themselves were put in an awkward position when Argentina beat France in the 2022 World Cup final.

"I was the only player not recognized by the club. That's understandable because we are Argentina, they (France) couldn't defend their World Cup title," Messi once said.

Just before leaving PSG, Messi was booed fiercely by French fans. A crowd of PSG supporters gathered in front of the club's headquarters, setting off flares and hurling insults at Leo: "Messi is a bastard."

Two years after Messi left, PSG won the Champions League for the first time under Luis Enrique, M10's former coach at Barcelona. PSG fans rejoiced, arguing that the team didn't need superstars like Messi or Neymar, but instead relied on collective play and the fighting spirit of each individual.

Messi is also in a different position. He has been the leading star of Inter Miami and the MLS for the past two years, holding the club's goalscoring record. But at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, M10 hasn't shone as expected. Inter Miami fans are hoping the former Barcelona star will perform well when they face PSG again in the knockout round.
