How delicious are the dishes on the app that you 'tell your mom not to bother cooking'?

Her phone has 3 food ordering apps installed, so Ngoc Han (28 years old, living in District 12, Ho Chi Minh City) often orders food outside for convenience. Her mother is also familiar with her daughter's hobby.

Even in their free time, Han and her mother choose to order food to eat together.

Many dishes, reasonable prices, delivered in 15 - 20 minutes

Working in the field of content creation and enjoying experiencing new dishes and restaurants, Han has been regularly ordering food via the app for many years.

Han said: "In the afternoon, I usually order easy-to-eat dishes like vermicelli with tofu, beef vermicelli, chicken rice... If I order traditional rice, I usually choose from a few restaurants that have dishes I like like stir-fried shrimp paste or fried fish, sour soup, eggplant."

According to Han, these restaurants have many dishes to choose from, and often offer free delivery if you buy from 60,000 - 70,000 VND or more. Recently, she discovered a restaurant with attractive snail dishes, fried spring rolls..., with free soft drinks and big discounts.

"Instead of eating rice with braised fish or soup like my mother used to cook, at this restaurant, I order snails stir-fried with butter and garlic and dipped in bread, or quail eggs stir-fried with tamarind... for something different," she laughed.

Especially, from now on, if she comes home early, she will tell her mother not to cook. She will ask her mother what she wants to eat and then order some food to eat together. Sometimes it is vermicelli with tofu, sometimes Quang noodles, beef noodles, and Central Vietnamese pancakes.

According to her, the cost of ordering food for two people is only about 100,000 VND/time, just like going to the market to cook rice.

But cooking takes a lot of time, the kitchen is hot, and the same dishes are boring. Ordering food comes in a ready-made container, so you can throw it away after eating, no need to wash it.

Sometimes at noon at work, she texts her mother on Zalo to ask what she wants to eat and then orders food for her. Because her mother doesn't know how to use the food ordering app, she orders 2-3 lunches a week for her mother.

Han found that because her family has few people, choosing a restaurant and ordering food is very simple and quick. "Large families will probably prioritize cooking and having everyone present to eat together. I still like the dishes my mother cooks, but I only eat them a few days a week," she said.

Moreover, on weekends, Han's brothers' small families would come home for a gathering, so her mother often had to cook and clean very tiredly. Therefore, she also wanted her mother to be free on other days, not having to worry about "what to cook today".

Order food, rainy days no need to go out

Nowadays, not only young people, many families are also familiar with using food ordering apps.

For example, instead of buying chicken to cook into chicken rice with boiled chicken, using the boiled water to cook rice, then making pickles, dipping sauce, salad to eat with..., some families order through the app and it only takes 15 minutes for delivery.

Vu Nhi's (27 years old, Thu Duc City resident) job requires her to travel frequently and follow a diet, so she usually only eats one dinner at home. "My mother or whoever is home will cook. Or if I come home early, I will cook," she said.

Nhi’s parents are traditional parents and do not support eating out. They prefer to cook at home or go to restaurants so that the whole family can go out and experience new places together.

However, Nhi's family sometimes orders complicated dishes with many ingredients for the whole family to eat on weekends or holidays. "And maybe these dishes wouldn't be delicious if I cooked them myself, like grilled chicken, banh xeo, hot pot...", she said.

According to Nhi, ordering food via a phone application (app) actually has many advantages. First, it saves time and ensures the taste of the food if you choose a reputable place to buy.

Ordering food via the app also helps save cooking effort, allowing the whole family to focus on chatting and enjoying the meal more.

"The apps have many food options, are convenient, and don't require you to go out. On rainy days, you don't need to go out to buy or find a place to eat," she said.

However, Nhi thinks that although ordering food via the app is flexible, it should not be done regularly because it is not certain to ensure nutrition and food hygiene and safety.

Experience ordering food through apps

According to Vu Nhi, when ordering food through the app, she often chooses restaurants with the following criteria:

- The dish clearly states the ingredients and has many options for adding toppings (side dishes that come with the dish, such as vermicelli with crab soup with extra ham, sausage, pork rinds, meatballs...).

- The restaurant has real photos of the dishes.

- Affordable price, free shipping promotion.

- Relatively close distance, within 5km.

- There are many sales, there are people who evaluate the actual quality.

As for Han, she usually chooses and orders food early, not during peak hours (12pm, 6pm). She and her friends in the area often share with each other the names of good restaurants to order from.
