Officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 marched to Dong Tien Hai and Dong Chau communes ( Hung Yen province) in the pleasant chill of the year-end. Despite the cold weather, it couldn't dampen the lively atmosphere and warm feelings of the people of the two communes towards the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8. From early morning, flags adorned the roads, and large crowds of people, along with local Party and government leaders and organizations, gathered to welcome the soldiers.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong, residing in Kenh Xuyen village, Dong Tien Hai commune, happily shared: “We have been waiting for the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 for many days. They came to help the people very wholeheartedly, from sweeping the village roads to assisting disadvantaged families. Not only during the end of the year, but whenever we face difficulties, we always receive enthusiastic help from the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8. They even helped harvest rice to protect it from storms. If it weren't for their help repairing my house, I don't know what I would have done.”

Amidst the warm welcome from the local people, the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 were delighted, excited, and enthusiastic to carry out their community outreach activities. Corporal Tran Duc Viet, a soldier in Squad 1, Platoon 7, Company 3, Battalion 4, Regiment 8, said: “Witnessing the enthusiastic welcome from the people made me very happy; it felt like returning home. This is a great source of encouragement and motivation for me and my comrades to strive and contribute many practical and meaningful things, fulfilling our duties during this field exercise for community outreach and in carrying out our unit's tasks.”

After settling into their accommodations and assigning tasks, officers and soldiers of Regiment 8, along with local youth union members and residents, immediately began their work. On the very first day of deployment, officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 planted and cared for a "flower road" more than 1km long along the main roads in Quy Duc village, Dong Tien Hai commune. Hundreds of cubic meters of soil and rocks were leveled by the soldiers. From preparing the soil, leveling the road shoulders, arranging planting locations, to planting new trees, watering, and caring for the roadside plants, the soldiers and local people worked together. The flower road not only creates a fresh and friendly landscape but also contributes to raising awareness of environmental hygiene and building new rural areas, giving each road and alley a new, more vibrant and fresh appearance.

Along with road construction, officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 also immersed themselves in the water, removing water hyacinths and trash, cutting branches, clearing the flow of many canals and ditches, and collecting waste.

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tuan Truong, Deputy Political Commissar of Regiment 8, shared: “With the spirit of ‘eating together, living together, working together’ with the local people, the officers and soldiers of the Regiment focus on carrying out practical tasks such as: environmental sanitation in residential areas; clearing bushes, unclogging drains, and dredging drainage ditches; beautifying the landscape of cultural and spiritual sites; cleaning the martyrs' cemetery area… This is a regular annual activity of the unit. In the coming time, the Party Committee and the Regiment's command will continue to proactively coordinate with local Party committees and authorities to implement more practical and effective civilian outreach activities, linked to training and combat readiness tasks, contributing to building a safe, developed, and civilized garrison area.”

Local residents provided essential supplies to the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8.

This upcoming military exercise by the 8th Regiment is expected to last 15 days and include many meaningful activities. Besides assisting the people, the field exercise and civilian outreach activities also provide an important practical environment for officers and soldiers of the 8th Regiment to hone their skills, work style, sense of responsibility, and spirit of serving the people; thereby further enhancing the image of the Ho Chi Minh Army in the hearts of the people and contributing to building a solid "people's defense" foundation.

Acknowledging and appreciating the practical and meaningful actions of the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 towards the locality, Mr. Tran Van Nhien, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Tien Hai commune, said: “We are very grateful for the affection that the officers and soldiers of Regiment 8 have shown to the locality. These practical actions contribute to sharing some of the difficulties with the Party committee, government and people in the area, creating more motivation for the locality to develop its economy and society, and build a new rural area.”
