On June 26, Russian Security Council Vice Chairman Dmitry Medvedev commented on Telegram that the European Union's (EU) 14th package of sanctions would not achieve its goals and would be another hostile act against Russia.

The warning from Russian officials came after the EU approved its 14th package of sanctions against Russia, specifically targeting the country's gas exports.
According to a press release from the Council of Europe, the new sanctions list adds 69 individuals and 47 entities "responsible for actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine".
According to a statement released by the Council of Europe, the new sanctions target high-value sectors of the Russian economy , including energy, finance, and trade.
These sanctions directly target Russia's gas industry, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The new sanctions will hinder the transit of Russian LNG from EU ports, as well as purchases through the bloc's port facilities.
In addition, the new sanctions package will also provide the 27-member bloc with more tools to prevent circumvention of sanctions, and will target an additional 116 individuals and organizations.
Meanwhile, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov also stated that Moscow firmly opposes the sanctions package recently adopted by the EU and considers them illegal.
He said: "We believe this is a double-edged sword and in many ways, these sanctions will backfire on the interests of the countries implementing them. Moscow has enough experience in mitigating the impact of such sanctions."
The U.S. has sanctioned more than 4,000 Russian individuals and companies since February 2022, when the special military operation in Ukraine began.
The EU, the UK, Canada, Japan, and several other countries have also imposed similar sanctions on Russia.
