Today, June 26th, Google, together with the Cyber ​​Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department of the Ministry of Public Security , launched the campaign " Preventing Online Fraud - Be Safer with the Ministry of Public Security & Google " .

This initiative aims to raise public awareness, helping people identify and avoid sophisticated online scams.

The campaign was launched across online platforms with the participation of over 200 YouTube content creators, playing a role in spreading information and inspiring action. YouTubers incorporated personal stories, scam prevention tips, and warning information into videos shared with millions of followers.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, 2024 saw over 6,000 online fraud cases, causing losses exceeding 12,000 billion VND.

70% of people have received at least one suspected scam message or call each month, highlighting the urgent need to raise awareness about online safety.

As part of the campaign, a series of eight short educational videos (each one minute long) will be released. In these videos, experts from Google and the Ministry of Public Security analyze seven of the most common scams , including: impersonating educational institutions, scams involving capital recovery, payment scams, online shopping and travel scams, impersonating law enforcement officers, romance scams for financial gain, and investment scams on fake platforms. Each video includes practical advice to help users protect themselves.

Marc Woo, General Manager of Google Vietnam, stated that Google is committed to working closely with authorities to help people stay safer in the digital space. Google Play's fraud protection feature alone has blocked 4.5 million installations of suspected malicious apps on over 1 million Android devices.

Alongside this campaign, Google continues to expand its Government App Verification initiative, helping users identify official government apps through the "Official" verification mark on Google Play. From the initial 80 apps such as VNeID and VssID, there are now more than 110 verified government apps.
