Diallo, Mbeumo, and Mazraoui have not yet joined the national team. |
Coach Ruben Amorim hopes to keep all three players for one more match before they have to return to their national teams for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which starts on December 21st. Recently, MU has been continuously negotiating with the Moroccan, Cameroonian, and Ivory Coast football federations to extend the training period for this group of players.
A new decision from FIFA last week allows clubs to retain players for longer, helping Manchester United avoid losing three key attacking players at a time when their schedule is packed. Although not officially confirmed, it is highly likely that Amad, Mazraoui, and especially top scorer Mbeumo will feature in the December 16th match, as they would have left the team earlier to join the training camp.
If the African players progress far in the CAN, MU will certainly be without them for the matches against Aston Villa (December 21), Newcastle (December 26), and Wolves (December 30). In the past, the "Red Devils" reached an agreement to postpone Andre Onana's arrival before the start of CAN 2023.
Conversely, the squad situation is causing coach Amorim a headache. Matthijs de Ligt, Benjamin Sesko, and Harry Maguire continued to be absent from the latest training session. Sesko is showing signs of recovery but is not yet able to rejoin the team for training.
Several young talents have been promoted to train with the first team, including Jack Fletcher and Shea Lacey, but have yet to play a Premier League minute this season. Nineteen-year-old centre-back Ayden Heaven has been given another chance after two recent starts.
Bournemouth travel to Old Trafford with a run of five winless matches and have dropped to 13th place, while a resounding 4-1 victory over Wolves at Molineux has propelled MU to 6th place.
