MU is about to get a new manager.

Darren Fletcher admitted that his chances of continuing to manage Manchester United are slim after the Red Devils were eliminated by Brighton in the third round of the FA Cup on the morning of January 12th.

Fletcher is unlikely to continue managing MU.

The 1-2 defeat at Old Trafford made Fletcher the first Manchester United manager since David Moyes in 2014 to be eliminated at this stage. Prior to that, the Red Devils had also drawn 2-2 with Burnley in the Premier League and been knocked out of the League Cup in the first round by Grimsby Town. This made the team's season the poorest it had ever been, with the fewest games played since the 1914/15 season.

Speaking on TNT Sports , Fletcher affirmed that he understood his role was only temporary: "Someone will come in to lead the team. The important thing is that the players have something to fight for in the rest of the season." The former Scottish midfielder stressed that the Manchester United squad still has the ability to compete, but needs to deepen its mental strength during this period of intense pressure.

Fletcher also acknowledged that the players' morale was very fragile. "When we conceded early, you can see the confidence crumble. Belief is incredibly important in football, and when you lack it, you have to fight harder to regain it," he said.

According to Fletcher, the next manager's biggest task is to restore confidence and internal cohesion. "The style of play might not be beautiful, but we need practical results to move the team forward," he shared.

Currently, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick are the two leading candidates for the interim manager position. Manchester United will have six days to prepare before the derby against Manchester City, amidst uncertainty surrounding the future of the coaching staff.
