Sterling was sought after by many clubs after leaving Chelsea. |
British media have confirmed that Sterling's representatives are holding exploratory talks with seven Champions League-qualified clubs, including both domestic and international teams. Tottenham were previously mentioned as a potential destination after Sterling left Chelsea on a free transfer, but Spurs have since withdrawn from pursuing the deal.
In Europe, Bayern Munich and Napoli are on the list of potential targets. Previously, Napoli's Sporting Director, Giovanni Manna, admitted Sterling's salary was a major obstacle. However, after reaching a financial agreement with Chelsea to terminate his £325,000-a-week contract, money is believed to no longer be a decisive factor in the 31-year-old's next move.
Sterling is currently considering several options, prioritizing a medium-term contract to restart his career. Last summer, he considered a loan move, but only within London due to family reasons, and rejected offers to the MLS or Saudi Pro League, believing he was still capable of playing at the highest level.
Despite not having played in official matches for over eight months and only training individually, Sterling is considered to be in good physical condition. If he cannot join a Champions League club, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and West Ham are considered viable options in the Premier League.
With the option to sign a contract immediately without a transfer fee, Sterling has a certain advantage. However, after a turbulent period at Chelsea where he went through five different managers in over three seasons, the former Man City star is being cautious. He is only choosing a stable team with a suitable philosophy to restart his career.
