Bayern Munich had an impressive start at the Club World Cup, securing a crushing 10-0 victory against Auckland City. With 34 Bundesliga titles and a squad valued at €903 million, the "Bavarian giants" had little difficulty overwhelming their opponents.
Speaking after the match, striker Thomas Muller said: “We played well, seriously and with great enthusiasm. We didn't let any risks happen or give the opponent any chance to retaliate. After each goal, Bayern immediately wanted the next one. That's why we achieved such a resounding victory.”
Muller said he was delighted to see the stadium packed with fans. "The fans were very happy with the goals. We want to continue like this, even though we won't always get results like this," the German striker added.
Meanwhile, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany stated: “When a team plays good defense, it’s not always easy to score 10 goals. We weren’t able to score more in the last game.”
The Belgian coach admitted that goal difference is very important in cup competitions like the Club World Cup. He said: "We play very seriously and do what needs to be done. Goal difference could become important in this group."
Bayern's victory over Auckland City puts them temporarily at the top of Group C of the Club World Cup. Their other two opponents in the group are Benfica and Boca Juniors.
