Bayern Munich got off to a flying start at the Club World Cup with a 10-0 thrashing of Auckland City. With 34 Bundesliga titles and a squad worth €903 million, the "Gray Tigers" had no trouble crushing their opponents.
Speaking after the match, striker Thomas Muller said: "We played well, seriously and passionately. We did not let any risks happen or give the opponent a chance to fight back. After each goal, Bayern immediately wanted to score the next one. That is why we created such a big score."
Muller said he enjoyed seeing the stadium full. "The fans are happy with the goals. We want to continue like this, even if we don't always get results like this," added the German striker.
Meanwhile, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said: "When a team plays well defensively, it is not always easy to score 10 goals. We could not have scored more goals in the last match."
The Belgian coach admitted that goal difference is important in cup competitions such as the Club World Cup. He said: "We take it very seriously and do what we have to do. Goal difference could be important in this group."
The win over Auckland City puts Bayern in the top spot of Group C of the Club World Cup. The other two opponents in the group are Benfica and Boca Juniors.
