Currently, Muong E commune has over 350 households growing vegetables. This year's winter-spring crop saw farmers in the commune planting 55.7 hectares of various vegetables. The focus was on: cabbage, onions, garlic, coriander, etc. Given the unpredictable weather, especially in this mountainous area where the weather is more extreme than in other communes in the province, the farmers proactively implemented measures to care for and protect their crops from the cold.
Visiting the vegetable garden of Mr. Lo Van Pe's family in Chieng Ve village, Muong E commune, we see various types of leafy greens, herbs, onions, and cabbage. At this time, the garden is thriving, not only meeting the family's daily needs for fresh vegetables but also selling to villagers and customers from other localities. Mr. Pe said: "To ensure good vegetable growth, before sowing the seedlings, we till the soil, dry it, and apply well-rotted manure. The seeds are carefully selected and stored from the previous season, so they germinate evenly. At this time, we only water the vegetables with clean water, remove pests, and weed; we don't use chemical fertilizers, which is why many customers trust and buy our produce."
Ms. Luong Thi Thu from Chieng Ve village, Muong E commune, shared: "Thanks to the guidance and information provided by commune and village officials on vegetable cultivation, my family uses well-rotted manure to fertilize our vegetables. We water them daily with clean water. During this winter, if there is frost or severe cold, we water the leaves early in the morning to melt the frost and prevent leaf burn when the sun comes out."

According to weather forecasts, the climate during the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring season will be complex, with low temperatures in mountainous areas, prolonged severe cold, and the possibility of ice, snow, and frost in some places. The People's Committee of Muong E commune has developed and issued a plan for implementing measures to prevent hunger, cold, and diseases affecting crops and livestock during the 2025-2026 Winter-Spring season, closely aligned with the actual situation in the commune.
Mr. Luong Thanh Tan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong E commune, said: To help people take good care of their crops, the commune has directed the commune's General Service Center and the Economic Department to strengthen guidance for people to prepare sufficient materials, fertilizers, and apply technical measures according to the instructions of specialized agencies. They are also strengthening propaganda, mobilization, and guidance for people to change the crop structure, expand the area for planting winter vegetables; advising against using seeds outside the approved structure, seeds that are easily susceptible to pests and diseases; and against using seeds sold haphazardly on social media... It is expected that the total vegetable production for the winter-spring crop this year in Muong E commune will be about 501 tons, estimated to bring an additional income of about 500 million VND to vegetable-growing households in the commune.
With the close attention and guidance of the commune, and the proactive efforts of farmers in planting and caring for vegetables, not only have they ensured a supply of clean vegetables for their families, but they have also gained additional income, contributing to an improved standard of living.
