Besides attracting audiences with its gentle, deep melody and Bao Anh's emotional voice, "She of Him" also faced some suspicions of plagiarizing some Chinese songs.
In response to the audience's suspicions, Kai Dinh - the composer of the song spoke up to deny plagiarism.
"Chinese music is very good. But that doesn't mean that every song with Asian melody and color is "borrowed" from Chinese music. Not every song with many metaphorical lyrics "borrows" the way Chinese music is written," Kai Dinh expressed.
However, the musician said that he respects the personal feelings of each audience. He always observes and listens to the audience's feedback to make appropriate changes, while constantly improving himself. The musician appreciates all comments and concerns.
Musician Kai Dinh
According to Kai Dinh, the idea for "Her" originated from the desire to write and produce for Bao Anh a 6/8 song with a characteristic classical harmony.
Although the lofi music space is quite popular in the world and in Vietnam, there are not many songs with 6/8 rhythm combined with this space, so "She of Him" is one of the first original 6/8 rhythm songs produced in the lofi space in Vietnam.
"The melody of this song starts with one of the classic melodic motifs and is developed linearly to meet two criteria: Easy to remember and suitable for Bao Anh's most beautiful vocal range. The formula that I use a lot in the melody development of this song is to continuously repeat the motif chains in each segment, from verse, to pre, to chorus.
This helps listeners receive the melody more easily, because the notes in the scale that Kai uses have a lot of sharps and flats. If developed with too many motifs, it will be confusing and difficult to remember for the average listener," Kai Dinh added about the song's idea.
The musician further revealed that the production team worked together and edited 18 different versions of the song "She's His".
Kai Dinh said that the entire idea of the EP "Don't Know Should Be Happy or Sad" is based on Asian colors. Not Chinese - Japanese - Korean music, nor Vietnamese, not specifically any country, but Asian colors in general.
