Big playground for OCOP products after province merger

Recently, at the Opening Ceremony of the Planning Exhibition Space; displaying and introducing OCOP products, typical agricultural products to celebrate the establishment of the new Lam Dong province, 10 cooperatives and enterprises of Binh Thuan (old) participated in introducing products along with 50 enterprises of the two provinces of Lam Dong and Dak Nong.

This is an event to promote the introduction of strengths, OCOP products, and typical agricultural products of the new Lam Dong province to tourists and people, creating conditions to support businesses and cooperatives in the new Lam Dong province to promote products, seek business and investment partners... This is not only an opportunity to promote and introduce the potential and strengths of the locality but also an opportunity for organizations, businesses, and cooperatives of the new Lam Dong province to meet, exchange, connect and consume products, promote value chain linkages in production - processing - consumption of agricultural products.

Participating in this exhibition, a number of units with OCOP products in Binh Thuan (old) participated such as Thuan Hung fish sauce, Duc Lan rice, Dam Sen seafood, Ba Hai fish sauce, Bao Long dragon fruit products... These are products that have been certified with 4-star OCOP, most of which are traditional products with outstanding strengths of the locality, especially fish sauce, dried squid, fresh dragon fruit... At the conference to review the 6-month collective economic situation, the cooperatives of Binh Thuan (old), Sen Nui General Service Cooperative shared: "When the 3 provinces merge into one house, OCOP products, typical rural products of each province will have the opportunity to expand the market, a big playground for each entity to freely promote their potential, reach more customers. Along with that, there is competition, forcing cooperatives to proactively improve operational efficiency, innovate management methods, and gradually transform digitally in operational management. Especially proactively Find markets to solve product output, provide good services to members".

Up to now, Binh Thuan has 189 OCOP products, including 7 4-star OCOP products and 182 3-star OCOP products. Dak Nong also has only 110 OCOP products of 87 entities, including 18 4-star products and 92 3-star products. Meanwhile, Lam Dong has up to 583 OCOP products in the whole province ranked including 5-star (2 products), 4-star (87 products), upgrading 4-star to 5-star (7 products), 3-star (494 products). Therefore, when 3 provinces merge into 1 new Lam Dong province, the playground of OCOP products is extremely interesting, but also poses many challenges for the entities. Most of the current OCOP product owners are small-scale, handcrafted, and traditionally produced, so they will face challenges, risks, and high competitive pressure compared to OCOP products with high quality and recognition. When entering a large playing field, the requirements for food safety, packaging, and branding will be more stringent, which can be a barrier for small producers and businesses. Therefore, the owners must proactively change to quickly catch up with the market.

Recently, the specialties of Hoa Le Dragon Fruit Cooperative and Sen Nui General Service Cooperative are the first OCOP products of Binh Thuan (old) to appear on the shelves of the Agricultural Products - Specialty Center of the new Lam Dong province. This is a positive signal showing the dynamism of the subjects in searching and expanding the market, so that when the new Lam Dong province officially comes into operation, the specialties of Binh Thuan and Dak Nong will be closer, blending into high-quality products, diverse from the mountains to the sea, meeting the increasing needs of tourists.
