The Ho Chi Minh Highway section from Chơn Thành to Đức Hòa is a part of the planned North-South Expressway in the West.
Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh Highway project, specifically the Chon Thanh – Duc Hoa section, was started in 2009 but had to be temporarily suspended in 2011. Construction only resumed at the end of 2023. Upon completion, the project will not only expand urban and industrial development but also create a vital transportation artery, contributing to the promotion of trade, tourism, services, and attracting investment to the entire Southern key economic region.
Viewed from above, the viaducts, bridge spans, and straight paved roads demonstrate the rapid pace of construction, reflecting a determination to bring the project into operation as soon as possible.
Roads are gradually being built, winding through rubber plantations, creating a breathtakingly beautiful and picturesque landscape when viewed from above.
Nguyen Van Hau, a worker currently constructing the Chon Thanh - Duc Hoa section, said: “These days, we are working continuously, sometimes even working overtime at night to meet the deadline. Everyone understands that this is a large project with very important significance, so despite the hardship, we are determined to complete it on time.”
After 13 years of inactivity, the Ho Chi Minh Highway project, specifically the Chơn Thành - Đức Hòa section, is accelerating, with over 65% of the work already completed. Specifically, in the Thanh An bridge approach area (on the Ho Chi Minh City side), the contractor is urgently working on embankment sections (K95, K98) and leveling the ground with crushed stone aggregate.
Workers are currently installing traffic signs.
Many sections of the road are still awaiting land clearance before construction can begin. In the photo: The median strip at the DT744 intersection has not yet been removed, hindering the smooth progress of construction along the entire route.
Currently, although the road is ready for operation, there are still land acquisition issues at the intersections of DT744, DT748, and DT749. In the photo, the DT744 intersection still has land acquisition issues on the branch leading from Thanh An Bridge, preventing the contractor from completing the work at this location.
The Ho Chi Minh Highway passing through Ho Chi Minh City has six bridges: Phuoc Hoa Canal, Cay Truong, Ba Tu, Thi Tinh, Suoi Tre, and Thanh An. Pictured is the Thanh An bridge, over 600 meters long, spanning the Saigon River. This is the largest bridge in the project, with an investment of approximately 180 billion VND.
According to the plan, the Ho Chi Minh Highway section from Chon Thanh to Duc Hoa will be a 6-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. The initial phase will be invested in with 2 lanes, and will be further expanded in the future to meet the region's development needs.
Viewed from above, the road runs through vast rubber plantations. The contractor is currently carrying out tasks such as painting road markings and pouring concrete for marker posts.
The land clearance for certain sections of the road has been expedited, allowing construction to proceed quite quickly. Currently, the project is being accelerated to meet the completion deadline set for the end of 2025.
The Ho Chi Minh Highway section from Chơn Thành to Đức Hòa, once completed, will become a highlight of the region's transportation infrastructure, a source of pride for those who directly contributed to its construction, and will open up new development opportunities for the entire Southern region.
