According to the Hindustan Times , under the new agreement, both India and the US will enjoy special priority in the procurement of emergency security equipment in exceptional circumstances, to meet national security needs.
This ensures that both countries can quickly access critical defense resources when needed.
Specifically, the U.S. is committed to providing India with guarantees under the U.S. Defense Assignment and Priorities System (DPAS).
In response, India will establish a Code of Conduct between the government and industrial establishments, under which Indian companies voluntarily agree to make every effort to provide preferential support to the US side under exceptional circumstances.
US officials highly value the importance of this agreement, viewing it as a key addition to the defense partnership between the two countries. SOSA is expected to further strengthen the existing Defense Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) between India and the US.
The agreement was signed during Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's visit to the United States. The ministry emphasized that the visit would contribute to further deepening and expanding the comprehensive India-US Global Strategic Partnership.
India is the 18th SOSA partner of the US, following Australia, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Norway, South Korea, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
