At the invitation of General Phan Van Giang, Minister of National Defense of Vietnam, Mr. Robert Kalinak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Slovakia, paid an official visit to Vietnam from November 18-20.
At the talks, General Phan Van Giang emphasized that the official visit to Vietnam by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense of Slovakia is of great significance in the context of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (1950-2025), creating a new impetus for bilateral defense cooperation, contributing to the active and effective implementation of defense cooperation commitments that the two sides agreed upon in the Memorandum of Understanding on Defense Cooperation signed in 2015 during the official visit to Vietnam by Slovakian Defense Minister Martin Glvac.
Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang affirmed that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam always attach importance to consolidating and developing the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Slovakia.
The Vietnamese people are always grateful for Slovakia's assistance during the past struggle for national independence and reunification and the current national development and international integration. Despite the geographical distance, the two countries still have much room and potential for cooperation in all fields, including defense.
At the talks, the two sides discussed the world and regional situation and issues of mutual concern. The leader of the Ministry of National Defense emphasized that Vietnam firmly adheres to the "four no's" defense policy and wishes to expand bilateral and multilateral defense cooperation on the basis of equality and mutual respect for common interests, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
In recent times, the Vietnam-Slovakia defense cooperation relationship has received attention from both sides and has been implemented in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2015, achieving positive results.

To continue promoting the two countries' defense cooperation in the coming time to develop commensurate with the good and increasingly close development of the two countries' relationship, General Phan Van Giang suggested that the two sides focus on areas such as increasing delegation exchanges, establishing cooperation mechanisms to enhance mutual understanding and exchanging measures to promote cooperation.
The Vietnamese Minister of National Defense hopes that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense will pay attention and soon send a Slovakian Defense Attaché to Vietnam to act as a bridge to help effectively implement the cooperation contents agreed upon by the two sides.
Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang hopes that the two sides will continue to promote cooperation in training, expressing his hope that the Slovakian Ministry of National Defense will consider accepting Vietnamese soldiers to participate in training courses in the Slovak language and in specialized fields that Slovakia is strong in. The Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense is ready to accept Slovak soldiers to study Vietnamese and participate in the International Defense Officials course.
In addition, General Phan Van Giang hopes that the two sides will continue to promote cooperation in UN peacekeeping through delegation exchanges, experience sharing, and participation in appropriate training courses organized by each side; strengthen cooperation in the defense industry; research and seek cooperation opportunities in other potential areas such as cyber security, mine clearance, overcoming war consequences, responding to non-traditional challenges, and supporting each other within the framework of cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union.
On this occasion, General Phan Van Giang respectfully invited the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defense, leaders of the Agency in charge of defense industry cooperation and leading defense industry enterprises of Slovakia to attend the 3rd Vietnam International Defense Exhibition, scheduled to be held at the end of 2026.

The leaders of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense believe that the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense will contribute to deepening the bilateral defense cooperation relationship into a more practical, effective one, commensurate with the potential of both sides, for the benefit of both countries, for peace, stability and common development of the region and the world.
On his part, Mr. Robert Kalinak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia, emphasized the long-standing traditional relationship between Vietnam and Slovakia, the two countries have stood side by side during the years of fighting and development.
Mr. Robert Kalinak was pleased with the results of the defense cooperation between the two countries in recent times. The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia agreed with the proposal to send a defense attaché to Vietnam.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Slovakia suggested that in the coming time, the two countries continue to strengthen cooperation in the fields of defense industry, exchange of delegations at all levels, and cyber security.
