This is the seventh time Vietnam has been invited to participate in this multilateral mechanism of global influence. At the beginning of the conference, at the Nasrec Expo Conference Center, the leaders of the G20 Presidency of South Africa hosted a welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and heads of state and government of other countries.
According to the program, on November 22, the Prime Minister will join the leaders of the countries in attending the opening session, speaking at the first discussion session and attending the second discussion session of the conference. Within the framework of the conference, the Prime Minister will have many bilateral meetings with leaders of countries and international organizations.
The G20 was established in 1999 and includes the G7 countries (United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Japan) and major economies, such as China, India, Brazil, Russia, Australia, Argentina, Mexico, South Korea, Indonesia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU) (joining in 2023).
The G20 is a mechanism with global influence, with the participation of all major countries and emerging economies with an increasing role, especially in promoting the participation and voice of developing countries in global governance, thereby contributing to shaping global governance norms and principles in a direction that is increasingly more beneficial to developing countries. The G20 accounts for about 67% of the world's population, 85% of global GDP and 75% of international trade.
The G20 Summit 2025 takes place from November 22 to 23, with the theme "Solidarity, Equality and Sustainable Development"; focusing on four key areas: Strengthening resilience and response to natural disasters, promoting sustainable debt management for low-income countries, mobilizing finance for a just energy transition, and utilizing essential minerals for inclusive and sustainable growth.
The conference is expected to be attended by leaders of G20 member countries, guest countries such as Egypt, Portugal, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Malaysia, Norway, New Zealand, Nigeria, Finland, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, Vietnam, UAE and representatives of 23 international and regional organizations.
