Ho Chi Minh City displays for the first time more than 1,500 Vietnamese currency artifacts from different periods

(Dan Tri) - More than 1,500 rare coins were introduced for the first time in Ho Chi Minh City, recreating the flow of Vietnamese history from the resistance war to the modern integration period.

On the morning of November 22, the exhibition "Vietnamese Currency - Journey through the flow of national history" officially opened at the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Branch, Region 2, Ho Chi Minh City. The event aims to introduce to the public typical monetary artifacts associated with the development stages of the country.

Attending the event were Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Thi Hong; Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Van Thi Bach Tuyet; Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Pham Tien Dung; Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung, along with many city leaders and former leaders of the State Bank of Vietnam.

The exhibition, organized by the State Bank of Vietnam, Region 2 branch (Ben Thanh ward), displays more than 1,500 monetary artifacts from 1875 to present, including Indochina currency, "Uncle Ho" banknotes, resistance money, promissory notes, purchase vouchers, coins and modern polymer money.

Each artifact is considered a "living witness", reflecting the historical, political and economic context of each period, while also representing the image of the country, people and culture of Vietnam. The event is organized to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Bank of Vietnam (May 6, 1951 - May 6, 2026).

Speaking at the exhibition, Mr. Pham Tien Dung, Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, emphasized: "The exhibition not only reflects the history of struggle, construction and development of the country through the journey of Vietnamese currency, but is also an opportunity to educate about tradition, arousing the pride and responsibility of each cadre, civil servant and employee of the banking sector."

Mr. Dung also added that 2025 is an important year, the final year of the 2021-2025 period, with many key tasks. In particular, the State Bank of Vietnam has actively implemented the arrangement of a streamlined, effective and efficient apparatus in the spirit of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW. Accordingly, the State Bank of Vietnam Branch in Region 2 is assigned to manage the Ho Chi Minh City area and Dong Nai province.

This exhibition offers visitors a unique perspective on national history through the story of money, contributing to nurturing pride, appreciation for the value of peace and aspirations for development in Vietnam today.

In addition, this is also a special space suitable for collectors, antique researchers, financiers and bankers and many young people interested in culture and history.

The exhibition is divided into four main themes, including: Indochina Money; Financial Banknotes / "Uncle Ho" Banknotes (1945 - 1954); National Bank of Vietnam Money (1951 - 1975); and Bank of Vietnam Money / State Bank of Vietnam (1975 - present), accompanied by a digital experience area.

The 1978 currency set was the first currency set issued by the State Bank of Vietnam nationwide, opening a new page in the history of Vietnamese currency. The currency set included both metal and paper money.

The organizers emphasized that the exhibition not only introduces valuable artifacts but also affirms the important role of the banking industry in protecting, building and developing the country through each historical period.

The exhibition is open free of charge until the end of April 2026, taking place on weekends from 9:00 – 11:30 and 14:00 – 17:00, for people aged 14 and over.
