Myanmar detains several Vietnamese nationals rescued from an online scam operation.

At the regular press briefing on the afternoon of February 27, the Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Ms. Pham Thu Hang, provided information on notable issues over the past period, particularly the protection of Vietnamese citizens in Myanmar and issues related to Thailand.

Regarding the information that Myanmar authorities are temporarily detaining many foreign nationals, including Vietnamese citizens, who were rescued after conducting raids on online fraud sites in the border area, Ms. Pham Thu Hang affirmed:

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is coordinating with the Ministry of Public Security to verify the information, directing Vietnamese representative agencies in Myanmar and Thailand to work with local authorities to identify the Vietnamese citizens and promptly implement necessary protective measures."

Thai media reported on February 26th that over 7,000 foreigners from 28 nationalities have been rescued from international scams in Myanmar and are awaiting repatriation. According to the newspaper, among them are 572 Vietnamese (511 men, 61 women), making them the second largest group of victims after China.

Besides the incident in Myanmar, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also closely monitoring the situation of Vietnamese citizens in Thailand. Specifically, regarding the case of 43 Vietnamese citizens who illegally entered Thailand, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with local authorities to verify their identities and take appropriate protective measures. Vietnam is committed to cooperating with Thailand to ensure the legitimate rights of its citizens and to taking necessary steps to assist those in need.

In addition, the collision between a Thai Navy vessel and a Vietnamese fishing boat is also being closely monitored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Vietnam has requested that Thailand clarify the cause of the incident, ensure the safety and rights of Vietnamese fishermen, and maintain cooperation to resolve the incident in a friendly manner and in accordance with international law.

Earlier, a Vietnamese fishing vessel collided with a Thai navy patrol boat on Wednesday as authorities were attempting to apprehend it for illegal fishing in Thai waters off the coast of Trat province.
