Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, President of the Provincial Red Cross Society, presented scholarships for the first quarter of 2024 to disadvantaged students in Thu Dau Mot city.

Meaningful activities

Granting scholarships to disadvantaged students is one of the humanitarian activities that Red Cross branches at all levels in the province have been carrying out for many years. However, previous scholarship programs were usually implemented on a specific occasion or during a specific program, rather than being implemented throughout the entire year. To support and help disadvantaged students at risk of dropping out of school, the Provincial Red Cross has launched a year-round (12-month) scholarship program for students and university students throughout the province in 2024.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh, President of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said that this is a scholarship program to support disadvantaged students at risk of dropping out of school. Therefore, the society will survey and compile a list of these students to mobilize resources for support. The purpose of the program is to share difficulties, encourage them, and provide them with a solid foundation to continue their education without interruption due to extremely difficult family circumstances.

According to statistics from the Provincial Red Cross Society, from September 2023 to April 15, 2024, the Provincial Society awarded scholarships totaling over 4.47 billion VND; in the first quarter of 2024 alone, the total value of scholarships awarded was 690 million VND. Thanks to this, hundreds of students in various localities throughout the province have been empowered to continue their pursuit of knowledge and dreams, towards a brighter future.

Looking towards a bright future

Many students who received scholarships from the Provincial Red Cross Society shared that they had never received such a valuable scholarship before. Whether they were excellent or average students, when asked, they all said they would strive to excel in their studies to live up to the trust and expectations that everyone has placed in them through this scholarship program.

Phan Minh Sang, a 9th-grade student at Tuong Binh Hiep Secondary School (Thu Dau Mot City), currently lives with his mother and older brother. His mother doesn't have a stable job; she does odd jobs and is often ill, making her unable to work much. The family's circumstances are extremely difficult, so his older brother had to drop out of school early to work and help support his mother. Knowing how hard his mother works to provide for his education, Sang is always determined to study hard. In 8th grade, Sang achieved excellent academic results.

"

"This is the first time I've received such a valuable scholarship from the Provincial Red Cross Society. For me, this scholarship is very meaningful, helping my family during difficult times and enabling me to continue my studies. I will try my best to study every day to achieve better results and to find a stable job in the future so I can support my family and my mother, as she has worked very hard to raise and educate me."

This scholarship program is one of the humanitarian activities with profound humanistic significance, receiving attention and support from organizations and benevolent individuals. Students from disadvantaged backgrounds and at risk of dropping out of school in various localities will continue to be surveyed and listed by Red Cross branches at all levels to receive support to help them attend school. This practical support and attention has encouraged and motivated disadvantaged students to strive harder in their studies.

Scholarships awarded to those in need not only help students attend school more easily and enable many disadvantaged families to better care for their children, but also contribute positively to the province's education system. It is hoped that after receiving these scholarships, the students will always remember the affection, care, and support that the community and society have given them, and will strive to study and train well so that they can become useful members of their families and society in the future.

According to the plan, in 2024, the Provincial Red Cross Society will award 1,025 scholarships totaling 12.3 billion VND (12 million VND per scholarship per year) to disadvantaged students at risk of dropping out of school throughout the province. The scholarships will be disbursed quarterly to help these students continue their education.
