(Dan Tri Newspaper) - According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple will make a major change to the camera of the iPhone 18 series, expected to launch in 2026.

"The major upgrade on the high-end iPhone 18 series is the variable aperture main lens. This will significantly improve the user's photography experience. Sunny Optical will be the partner supplying the lenses and shutters for this new camera system," Ming-Chi Kuo revealed.

Previous rumors suggested that at least one version of the iPhone 17 would feature a main camera with variable aperture. However, Kuo believes Apple has delayed this plan and will instead include these upgrades in the higher-end iPhone 18 lineup.

Equipping the device with a variable aperture lens allows for better control over the amount of light entering the sensor. This enables the camera system to perform better in a wider range of challenging lighting conditions.

Most likely, this upgrade will only appear on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. Previously, Kuo also revealed that the processor chips in the iPhone 18 Pro will be manufactured using TSMC's 2nm process.

These could be the first iPhones to feature the new processor chip. Meanwhile, the standard versions are still expected to use 3nm chips, primarily due to production costs and technological limitations.
