
In France, meteorological agencies warn that the heatwave could last throughout this week, with temperatures in some areas potentially reaching 39 degrees Celsius.
The Italian Ministry of Health has issued an orange alert (level 2) for heatwaves in major cities across the country, marking the first extreme weather event of this summer. The Ministry recommends that people limit outdoor activities during peak hours, avoid direct sunlight, and refrain from strenuous outdoor physical activity.
According to Bob Ward, an expert at the Grantham Institute for Climate Change and Environment at the London School of Economics (UK), Europe needs to change the way it designs housing, offices, and urban infrastructure to adapt to the new climate realities.
Extreme weather conditions are also gripping many countries in Asia, including India. The international air quality monitoring platform AQI recorded that 45 of the world's hottest cities were in India at midday on May 27th, with temperatures exceeding 43 degrees Celsius.
