The US has warned it is ready to attack Iran if no agreement is reached.

(HTV) - On May 30, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington was ready to resume attacks on Tehran if the two sides did not reach a common agreement, as negotiators from both countries worked to narrow their differences.

Speaking at the Shangri-La Dialogue, Asia's leading security forum currently taking place in Singapore, Hegseth affirmed that the US military capabilities and global arsenal fully guarantee a successful outcome in this situation.

The Pentagon chief said Washington is capable of handling multiple operational plans simultaneously, and is increasing defense production two, three, or even four times to ensure that all operational plans globally are adequately funded.

Mr. Hegseth also stated that President Donald Trump is being very patient and eager to reach a good agreement to ensure Iran does not possess nuclear weapons. According to him, with the right incentives, Tehran could abandon its ambitions to develop nuclear weapons through negotiations.

Earlier, President Donald Trump announced a secret meeting at the White House to make a final decision on a proposal to end the war with Iran. This proposal aims to extend the ceasefire, which began in early April, for another 60 days, giving negotiators time to develop a lasting solution to end the conflict.

The US Secretary of Defense also emphasized that involvement in a conflict with Iran would not change Washington's commitment to the Asia-Pacific region. However, he said that the US would no longer provide defense subsidies to wealthy nations and called on allies to share the burden of defense spending more strongly.
