Iran is about to legalize the management of the Strait of Hormuz.

(HTV) - On May 31, the Iranian parliament is expected to vote on a bill to officially formalize its control over the Strait of Hormuz, amid escalating maritime tensions with the United States.

According to Alaeddin Salimi, a member of the Presidium of the Iranian Parliament , lawmakers have reached a final decision on legalizing the management of the Strait of Hormuz. He stated that only Iran and Oman, the two countries bordering the Strait of Hormuz, have the authority to decide on the management mechanism for this strategic waterway. Consultations have begun between the two countries, and the plan may be finalized soon.

On the same day, Iran's Khatam al-Anbiya Central Command announced that its armed forces were exercising full control over the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran demanded that all vessels, including commercial ships and oil tankers, travel along routes designated by Iran and with the permission of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy.

Iran also warned it would retaliate against any interference from foreign military vessels aimed at hindering management or disrupting traffic on this strategic shipping lane.

The IRGC Navy said that 20 vessels had passed through the Strait of Hormuz in the past 24 hours, in coordination with Iranian maritime authorities.

Meanwhile, the US-led Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC) confirmed that the blockade of Iranian ports remains in place. According to the JMIC, vessels are prohibited from entering or leaving Iranian ports, and those that do not comply may be disabled or destroyed.

In a related development, Tehran has indicated it may withdraw from the agreement it is negotiating with the US if Washington does not lift the naval blockade and release Tehran's frozen assets abroad. However, Iranian officials have confirmed that the differences between the two sides are no longer significant, but the final draft has yet to be approved.
