Russian opposition activist Alexei Navalny was buried in Borisov Cemetery on the banks of the Moskva River after a church funeral service.
Ivan Zhdanov, an ally of Alexei Navalny, said the Russian opposition activist's funeral took place this afternoon at the Icon of Our Lady church in the Maryino district of Moscow, attended by his parents and supporters. Navalny's body was then taken to be buried at the Borisov cemetery 2.5 km away.
Yulia Navalnaya, Navalny's wife, and their two children are abroad and did not attend the ceremony.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on the same day that he had "nothing to say" to Navalny's family, while warning that illegal gatherings were a violation of the law. "The law must be obeyed. Those who participate in illegal gatherings will be held accountable under the law," he said.
Navalny, 47, a former lawyer, served as leader of the opposition Russian People's Alliance party from 2019 to 2021 and led numerous anti -government protests. He was arrested in January 2021 in Moscow, sentenced to approximately 30 years in prison on charges of extremism and other offenses, and transferred to the IK-3 prison near the Arctic Circle in late 2023.
