Previously, during dismissal time, parents would park their motorbikes and cars haphazardly in front of the school gate, with some even driving into the schoolyard to find and pick up their children. Students would run around looking for their parents, creating a chaotic scene, traffic congestion in front of the school gate, and posing a traffic safety hazard in the schoolyard. Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Binh, Principal of Son Bang Primary School in Huong Son District, said: "Every afternoon, nearly 200 parents arrive at the school gate by motorbike, bicycle, and car to pick up their children, so chaos is unavoidable, especially during rainy and cold winter weather. Recognizing the positive effects of the 'queueing to pick up children' movement, the school has coordinated with the commune's youth union to guide parents in parking neatly along the roadside, creating orderly lines and widening the road for easy traffic flow." The school administration also assigned teachers from each class to guide the students in lining up to exit through the main and side gates. The school also used loudspeakers to broadcast messages reminding parents to pick up their children on time, emphasizing the importance of choosing a suitable waiting area and ensuring both themselves and their children wear helmets. Within just a few days, parents voluntarily complied, and the chaotic scenes in front of the school during pick-up times, as seen before, no longer occurred.
Under the drizzling rain and rather cold weather, Mr. Dinh Sy Chau, 72 years old, a retired military officer from Hamlet 5, Son Bang Commune, along with dozens of other parents, voluntarily parked their vehicles neatly on both sides of the road, waiting for the school bell to ring. Mr. Chau shared: “I find this a practical approach, and we parents support and seriously participate in this movement. For the past few days, when picking up my grandchild, I haven't had to endure the crowds at the school gate, and I get home fifteen minutes faster than before.”
During rush hour, chaotic scenes and traffic jams in front of schools are common from urban to rural areas. The primary reason is the low level of awareness among parents. Therefore, the "queueing to pick up children" movement at schools in Ha Tinh province needs to be widely implemented. This is also a way to educate children and instill a sense of cultural awareness regarding traffic laws.
