During an event held in Michigan and broadcast live on September 19 (local time), host and American television star Oprah Winfrey discussed pressing issues with Ms. Harris. Winfrey brought up the issue of Vice President Harris owning a gun, a fact she has repeatedly confirmed, The Hill reported on September 20.
"If someone breaks into my house, they will be shot," Harris said, then added, "Perhaps I shouldn't have said that. My staff will handle that later."

Gun violence was one of the main issues discussed. Ms. Harris called for a ban on assault weapons and comprehensive background checks.
“For a long time, some people have held the mistaken view that you can either support the Second Amendment or want to take guns away from everyone. I both support the Second Amendment and want to ban assault weapons,” Harris said.
The Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution stipulates that the federal government has no authority to infringe upon the right of citizens to keep and bear arms. Gun ownership is one of the most divisive issues in the U.S., especially after mass shootings.
Harris said that Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the Democratic vice presidential candidate in this year's election, also owns a gun.

Besides gun ownership rights, the issue of abortion was also discussed at the September 19th event. This is also an important issue that could impact voter sentiment in this year's US presidential election.
Harris's opponent in the election, former President Donald Trump, participated in an event in Washington DC on September 19th with the theme of combating anti-Semitism in America.
Trump said that if he loses the election, Jewish people will suffer. He added that Jewish people owe him their vote, due to the former president's pro-Israel stances.
