Mr. Luu Truong An, Party Secretary and Head of Cay Go Hamlet, said that the rural road lighting movement has been implemented in stages. About seven years ago, when conditions were still difficult, hamlet officials only encouraged households to hang light bulbs in front of their houses at night to ensure security and order. Through self-governing group meetings and community meetings, the initiative gradually gained consensus.
Seeing the positive results, the Party cell of Cay Go hamlet continued to mobilize efforts to install streetlights along the roads. Each light pole costs about 700,000 VND, but residents only contributed about 300,000 VND, with the rest raised through social mobilization. Particularly disadvantaged households received support from officials and Party members. Two poor households even pooled their resources to erect a single light pole. "The important thing is to make people feel they are the main stakeholders in the project, responsible for its maintenance and protection. We mobilize support, but we are always flexible and not rigid," Mr. An said.
To save costs, officials and Party members in Cay Go hamlet also directly contributed their labor to digging holes, erecting poles, and welding and cutting iron. Thanks to the exemplary actions of this core force, the movement quickly spread. Most recently, a 500-meter stretch of road belonging to Self-Governing People's Groups No. 2 and No. 3 had 19 solar-powered streetlights installed in just one month. In early 2026, the hamlet will receive further investment of 50 million VND for a rural road lighting project.
Besides brightening the streets, the hamlet's Party branch also mobilized residents to create a green, clean, and beautiful landscape. For more than four years, Mr. Ly Hong Loi has maintained a green hedge in front of his house. Initially, he only thought of it to beautify his home, but when he saw the entire street gradually covered in greenery, many other households voluntarily followed suit. "Now, passersby often stop to take photos and videos. Seeing my hometown become more beautiful, I feel proud to have contributed," Mr. Loi said.
The movement to build bright, green, clean, and beautiful roads has also been replicated in Phat Dat hamlet. Mr. Tran Van Suong, Deputy Head of the hamlet and Head of the Front Committee of Phat Dat hamlet, recalled that in 2021, when the hamlet was building new rural areas, the approximately 1km long stretch of the Chong My canal bank still faced many difficulties. The Party branch and the Front Committee of the hamlet determined that they had to do each task specifically, working while simultaneously mobilizing support. "As the road was being built, we disseminated information, explaining to the people that building new rural areas is primarily for the benefit of the people," Mr. Suong said.
Initially, the installation of streetlights was carried out through social mobilization and contributions from the people. To reduce costs, hamlet officials, community organizations, and commune officials all participated in digging holes, erecting poles, and installing lights. After completion, the project was handed over to the people for management. From the first road, Phat Dat hamlet has now built three bright, green, clean, and beautiful roads. The movement to create green hedges continues to spread from the pioneering households to the remaining ones.
