The three-day nuclear exercise, which began on May 19, took place across Russia and Belarus. The exercise occurred at a time when Moscow was embroiled in a life-or-death struggle with the West over Ukraine.

"As part of nuclear forces exercises, nuclear ammunition was transferred to a field storage facility in the area where a missile brigade is stationed in Belarus," the Russian Ministry of Defense announced.

Missile brigades in Belarus are also conducting training to receive special ammunition for the Russian-developed Iskander-M mobile ballistic missile system, including loading ammunition onto launch vehicles and secretly moving them to designated areas in preparation for launch.

Video released by the Ministry of Defence shows the truck driving through the forest amidst lightning and soldiers unloading cargo. It is currently unclear what goods they are unloading.

The Iskander-M guided missile system has a range of up to 500 km and can carry conventional or nuclear warheads. According to Russian media, the country's military has used Iskander-M against Ukrainian forces.

Throughout the conflict in Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly reiterated Russia's nuclear capabilities as a warning to the West against over-supporting Kyiv.

On May 20, the Kremlin sharply criticized the remarks of Lithuania's top diplomat as "almost insane" after Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kestutis Budrys suggested that NATO must demonstrate to Moscow its ability to enter Russian territory in Kaliningrad.

Kaliningrad lies between the territorial borders of two NATO members, Lithuania and Poland, on the Baltic Sea coast. It has a population of approximately one million and is heavily militarized, serving as the headquarters of the Russian Baltic Fleet.

In an interview with TASS news agency on May 19, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also said that Russia would respond to attempts by NATO member states in Europe to increase their nuclear conflict capabilities.
