Mr. Tran Minh Thien - credit card holder of Vietnam Thuong Tin Commercial Joint Stock Bank (VietBank) - said that a few days ago, a stranger claiming to be a VietBank employee called him and asked him to provide personal information so that the bank could support him in increasing his credit card limit, along with a number of incentives, including health insurance premiums worth millions of dong.

"Suspecting this information was fake, on December 25, I reported the call content to VietBank for verification," said Mr. Thien.

Some people have impersonated bank employees to defraud and appropriate money from accounts or credit cards.

Regarding this incident, VietBank said that recently, some subjects have impersonated bank employees to defraud and appropriate money in accounts or credit cards. These tricks are becoming more and more sophisticated and common.

The subjects often call or text cardholders to invite them to increase their credit limit, then add them on Zalo to talk directly. They will send the victim a fake link to set a trap.

Therefore, VietBank warns credit card holders to absolutely not click on links in SMS messages, not enter passwords, OTP, PIN codes, or activation codes into any strange links. In addition, do not provide card number information, CVV/CCV secret codes in any form, even to people claiming to be bank employees, to avoid the risk of losing money.

In particular, cardholders need to be vigilant, do not transfer money or provide personal information to strangers over the phone. Be cautious with messages, calls, or emails asking to access strange links or provide information related to bank accounts.

When it is necessary to renew the credit card, the bank's Customer Service Department will contact the cardholder directly for advice. In case of wanting to increase the credit card limit, the cardholder must contact the VietBank Business Center directly. The bank does not process these requests over the phone.
