(NLĐO) – Strangers posing as bank employees are offering to increase credit card limits, adding people on Zalo (a Vietnamese online marketplace), and sending fake links to trap them.
Mr. Tran Minh Thien, a credit card holder of Vietnam Commercial Trust Bank (VietBank), said that a few days ago, a stranger claiming to be a VietBank employee called him and asked him to provide personal information so the bank could help increase his credit card limit, along with some incentives, including health insurance worth millions of VND.
"Suspecting this information was fake, on December 25th, I reported the content of the call to VietBank for verification," said Mr. Thien.
Some individuals have impersonated bank employees to fraudulently steal money from accounts or credit cards.
Regarding this matter, VietBank stated that recently, some individuals have been impersonating bank employees to defraud people and steal money from accounts or credit cards. These schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated and widespread.
The perpetrators typically call or text cardholders offering to increase their credit limit, then add them as friends on Zalo to communicate directly. They will send the victims a fake link to set a trap.
Therefore, VietBank warns credit card holders to absolutely not click on links in SMS messages, and not to enter passwords, OTPs, PINs, or activation codes into any suspicious links. Furthermore, do not provide card number information or CVV/CCV security codes under any circumstances, even to anyone claiming to be a bank employee, to avoid the risk of losing money.
In particular, cardholders should be vigilant and avoid transferring money or providing personal information to strangers over the phone. Be cautious of messages, calls, or emails requesting access to suspicious links or information related to bank accounts.
When credit card renewal is required, the bank's Customer Service Department will contact the cardholder directly for advice. If you wish to increase your credit limit, you need to contact VietBank's Business Center directly. The bank does not process these requests by phone.
