Việt NamViệt Nam09/08/2024

As one of the localities with the largest forest land area in the province, with 56,000 hectares, Ba Chẽ district is promoting and encouraging people to develop large-timber forests and native tree species, making forestry a key economic sector of the locality.

Forests have been and continue to provide a stable source of income for the people of Ba Chẽ district.

Thanh Son commune has a natural area of 11,039.73 hectares, of which forest land is 9,836.92 hectares, with a forest cover rate of 73.85%. As a locality whose main source of income comes from afforestation, in recent years, implementing Action Program No. 27-CTr/HU dated January 2, 2020 of the Ba Che District Party Committee on implementing Resolution No. 19-NQ/TU dated November 28, 2019 of the Provincial Party Committee on sustainable forestry development in the province until 2025, with a vision to 2030; and Directive No. 02-CT/HU dated September 1, 2020 of the Ba Che District Party Committee on...   To strengthen leadership and guidance in implementing the large-timber forest planting project and the project for the conservation and development of several valuable medicinal plant species in the district, the communes have established Steering Committees for the implementation of the large-timber forest planting project and the project for the conservation and development of several valuable medicinal plant species, assigning each member of the Steering Committee and the propaganda and mobilization team to be responsible for each village.

Through various forms of propaganda and mobilization, such as conferences; mass media systems (loudspeakers, FM radio at village cultural centers); visual propaganda (banners, posters); and propaganda on social media platforms like Zalo and Facebook, forest planters have been able to grasp policies supporting forestry development, register to participate, and develop production plans for large timber forests and native tree species. From 2020 to the present, the commune has planted 585 hectares of large timber forests, accounting for 61% of the newly planted forest area, including 116.4 hectares of teak, mahogany, and ebony trees, and 468.6 hectares of acacia. The commune has also planted 4,178 scattered forestry trees, contributing to improving the ecological environment and supplementing the timber resources of planted forests to serve people's lives and economic development.

Mr. Ninh Van Nam (Khe Long Ngoai village, Thanh Son commune) said: His family owns 7.5 hectares of forest. Like other households in the village, his family used to mainly plant acacia trees with a cycle of 5-7 years, so the income was not high. Thanks to propaganda, support with seedlings and loans, his family has now converted 5.8 hectares to planting cinnamon and teak, and 1.7 hectares to planting ginseng. Planting large timber trees will bring higher economic benefits in the long run and protect the natural environment.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Thang, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune has a low starting point.   When embarking on the New Rural Development program, in recent years, besides developing large-timber plantations, the commune has directed people to intercrop medicinal plants such as cinnamon, golden flower tea, and ginseng to improve economic efficiency. As a result, the income of forest planters has gradually increased; in 2023, the average income reached 66.58 million VND/person, an increase of 4.98 million VND compared to 2022; it is expected to reach over 70 million VND/person by the end of 2024.

Mr. Ninh Van Nam (Khe Long Ngoai village, Thanh Son commune) takes care of cinnamon trees.

With the active involvement of Party committees and authorities from the district to the grassroots level, from 2021 to the present, the entire district has planted 1,088.98 hectares of teak, mahogany, and rosewood forests. According to the plan, in 2024 the district will plant 3,500 hectares of forest, including 250 hectares of large timber forests. By the end of July 2024, the district had planted 152 hectares, reaching 61% of the annual plan, including 25 hectares in Thanh Son commune; 14.5 hectares in Don Dac; 13.2 hectares in Luong Mong; and 12.3 hectares in Dap Thanh. The district has also planted 255 hectares of cinnamon trees, 14.6 hectares of medicinal plants, and 3,166.8 hectares of acacia and Pinus massoniana trees.

With the goal of becoming the economic center for forestry and medicinal plants in the province, and making forestry a key economic sector, Ba Chẽ prioritizes resources, effectively implements investment incentive mechanisms and policies, attracts investment capital into forest planting and forest management and protection, gradually socializes forestry, forms raw material areas linked to wood processing factories, and creates value chains in forestry production to increase added value in forestry production.
