Vietnamese Family Day

On May 4, 2001, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 72/2001/QD-TTg designating June 28th as Vietnam Family Day to honor the traditional cultural values of the family, while also enhancing the responsibility of all levels, sectors, and society as a whole in building prosperous, progressive, and happy families.
Since then, June 28th has become an occasion to spread the positive values of the Vietnamese home, highlighting the role of the family in preserving cultural identity and nurturing future generations.
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of Vietnam Family Day (2001-2026), the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has chosen the theme "Happy Family - Prosperous Nation," emphasizing the message that the family is the cell of society, the foundation for building national values, culture, and Vietnamese people in the new development stage.
Open training courses for adult literacy education officials for ethnic minority communities.
Less than a year after the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, the anti-illiteracy movement was vigorously launched throughout the country.

This was one of the first training programs specifically for ethnic minority communities, contributing to building a core workforce for popularizing the national language in mountainous, remote, and disadvantaged areas.
The Popular Education Movement became a significant milestone in the history of Vietnamese education , laying the foundation for the eradication of illiteracy and the raising of the general level of education.
Opening of the Central Highlands Campaign
On June 28, 1949, our army and people launched the Central Highlands Campaign – the first large-scale campaign in the three provinces of Kon Tum (formerly), Gia Lai, and Dak Lak during the resistance war against French colonialism. The main direction of attack was Gia Lai, combined with building political bases and launching people's war in the region inhabited by ethnic minorities.
Despite challenging logistical conditions, the campaign contributed to expanding the revolutionary base area, consolidating local armed forces, and strengthening solidarity with the people of the Central Highlands.
This was considered an important preparatory step for the development of the Central Highlands battlefield in the following years of the resistance war.
The 81-day and 81-night defense of Quang Tri Citadel begins.
June 28, 1972 marked the beginning of the 81-day and 81-night battle to defend the Quang Tri Citadel – one of the fiercest battles in the resistance war against the US for national liberation. For nearly three months, our army and people bravely held their ground against the enemy's intense firepower, creating a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism.
The war was not only of military significance but also created a crucial advantage at the negotiating table, contributing to the process leading to the Paris Agreement in 1973.
Today, Quang Tri Ancient Citadel is a historical site, commemorating thousands of officers and soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the independence and unification of the country.

The assassination in Sarajevo sparked World War I.
On June 28, 1914, the Austro-Hungarian Crown Prince Franz Ferdinand and his wife were assassinated in Sarajevo by Gavrilo Princip, a member of a Serbian nationalist organization. This incident triggered a diplomatic crisis between Austria-Hungary and Serbia, leading to the involvement of major powers through military alliances.
Just over a month later, World War I broke out, lasting over four years and claiming the lives of tens of millions of people.
The Sarajevo incident is still considered the direct cause that triggered the first global war in human history.
The Treaty of Versailles brought World War I to an end.
On June 28, 1919, the Treaty of Versailles was signed between the Allies and Germany, officially ending the state of war following World War I.
The treaty stipulated that Germany had to reduce its military forces, cede territory, and pay war reparations, while also laying the groundwork for the creation of the League of Nations.
Although it contributed to establishing a post-war world order, many researchers argue that the overly stringent terms of the Treaty of Versailles increased political and economic instability in Europe, becoming one of the causes of World War II two decades later.
