According to statistics from the Nghe An Department of Agriculture and Environment, as of October 2025, the province had a total buffalo population of 246,525, a decrease of 0.86% compared to the same period last year. Recognizing that buffalo farming is no longer as economically viable as before, people are tending to switch to other livestock or pursue more stable income-generating jobs.

Conversely, Nghe An currently has a total cattle herd of 561,415 head, an increase of 13,079 head, or 2.39%, compared to the same period in 2024. Of this, the dairy cattle herd alone is estimated at 80,770 head, an increase of 0.68%. The province's sustained growth in cattle herd is due to improved farming methods, with most localities prioritizing cattle development. Increased demand and favorable cattle prices have ensured stable profits for farmers.
In recent years, Nghe An province has issued many practical credit support policies, integrating programs such as the National Target Program for Building New Rural Areas, support programs from businesses, agricultural extension programs, and seed programs, thereby allocating funds for the Zebuization of cattle herds, grass cultivation, and processing agricultural by-products into feed for fattening beef cattle.

Building on its current foundation, Nghe An will continue to prioritize the development of concentrated cattle farms, applying high technology, similar to what TH Group and Vinamilk are doing. In addition, it will strengthen the application of scientific and technological advancements in breeding to simultaneously achieve a "dual goal": increasing productivity and improving product quality.
