Heartwarming acts of gratitude

Demonstrating the principle of " drinking water, remembering the source ," every year, the Vietnam Journalists Association of Long An province, in coordination with Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, organizes many activities to pay tribute to martyred journalists and their families, showing the responsibility and affection of today's generation of journalists towards those who came before.

On the occasion of holidays and festivals, the unit organized a delegation to visit and present gifts to the families of 19 martyred journalists in the province. Each gift was worth 1.5 million VND (including 1 million VND in cash). Although the gifts were not large in material value, they contained deep affection and gratitude to the journalists who sacrificed themselves in the struggle for national independence and freedom. In addition, the unit actively participated in social welfare activities such as visiting and supporting the children of martyred journalists ; coordinating training and job placement to help them stabilize their lives.

Mr. Chau Hong Kha, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Long An province and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, visited and presented Tet gifts to the family of martyred journalist Phan Khuong (An Vinh Ngai commune, Tan An city).

Chau Hong Kha, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association of Long An province and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, said: “We always appreciate the contributions of previous generations of journalists. They worked in very difficult conditions, and many sacrificed their lives while on assignment. These acts of gratitude today are our way of expressing our appreciation and preserving the tradition of revolutionary journalism .”

In particular, from January 1, 2016 to the present, Long An Newspaper (now Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station) has been providing care and support to Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Hanh (Phuoc Lai commune, Can Giuoc district) as a profound act of gratitude. Following the model of filial piety, on holidays and Tet (Lunar New Year), members visit, clean the house, and chat with the mother as if she were their own child. Each visit is not only a responsibility but also a sacred expression of gratitude to the mother who sacrificed her personal happiness for the peace we enjoy today.

The Trade Union and the Youth Union of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station presented gifts to support Heroic Vietnamese Mother Le Thi Hanh (Phuoc Lai commune, Can Giuoc district).

These practical and humane actions not only contribute to the effective implementation of the policy of showing gratitude and repaying kindness, but also spread a spirit of social responsibility among journalists today.

Through their concrete actions, the team of journalists at Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station not only fulfills their professional duties but also spreads profound humanistic values, contributing to building a united and compassionate community, where journalists are not just news providers but also companions and share in life.

Partnering with social welfare

During their work, many journalists have encountered unfortunate individuals, and driven by a passion for their profession, they choose to write about these stories as a mission. Through their pens and cameras, these journalists have spread the spirit of "mutual support and compassion" through heartwarming articles, calling for community support. The "Overcoming Adversity" program, a testament to the humanitarian spirit of Long An Newspaper and Television Station, is a prime example. Broadcasting regularly at 7:45 PM every Wednesday, the 15-minute program has raised billions of dong to support those suffering from serious illnesses and facing extreme hardship. The moving footage and authentic stories not only help the subjects overcome adversity but also awaken compassion and empathy in television viewers.

Journalist Yen Mai, a member of the program's production team, shared: "We always prioritize sincerity because, in addition to our duties, we also have a social responsibility as journalists. Each person and each situation is thoroughly researched to reflect reality truthfully and touch the hearts of viewers. We hope the program will spread even wider so that less fortunate individuals have more opportunities to be supported and empowered to overcome illness and life's challenges." Only by spending a day with the team can one truly appreciate the sense of responsibility, dedication, and compassionate hearts of the journalists in their journey to support those less fortunate.

Beyond just reporting, the younger generation of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station also directly participates in many charitable activities such as coordinating gift giving to poor and near-poor households and people in difficult circumstances in remote, border areas; awarding scholarships, bicycles, and learning materials to poor students who overcome difficulties; and implementing meaningful "Returning to the Roots" and "Showing Gratitude" programs.

Recently, the Youth Union of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, in coordination with various units and sponsors, organized many practical social welfare activities, especially targeting disadvantaged children in localities throughout the province. In Vinh Binh commune (Vinh Hung district), the Youth Union presented 50 gifts to disadvantaged children, each worth 100,000 VND, including lanterns, mooncakes, and other sweets and candies. At the same time, the unit also distributed over 350 gifts with a total cost of approximately 60 million VND to students of Tan Hiep Secondary School (Thanh Hoa district).

In 2024, the Youth Union of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station continued to promote its role in connecting and coordinating efforts to donate 2 water filters and 30 gifts to students of Thai Tri Primary and Secondary School (Vinh Hung district) with a total cost of 30 million VND from social contributions. In addition, the Union also donated 2,000 notebooks to students of My Thanh Dong Secondary School; provided 5 study corners and gifts to poor and studious students in Duc Hue district; and supported 15 million VND for the project of lighting up rural roads in Tuyen Binh Tay commune (Vinh Hung district).

In the first six months of 2025, the Youth Union branch continued to implement many community-oriented activities: mobilizing 500 notebooks to donate to students in border areas, participating in cleaning up the martyrs' cemetery. Annually, on International Children's Day (June 1st) and the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Youth Union branch, in coordination with the Trade Union branch, organizes activities, games, and gifts for the children of civil servants, employees, and workers of the unit.

In addition, throughout this period, the Youth Union branch has actively participated in social work movements and programs launched by the Executive Committee of the Provincial Youth Union of Agencies and Enterprises and the Emulation Cluster, contributing to spreading a positive image of journalists in Youth Union work and youth movements.

Vo Ngoc Khang Nam, Secretary of the Youth Union of Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station, said: “Social welfare activities are always a priority for the Youth Union, regularly organized and directed towards areas facing many difficulties. Each trip is an opportunity for us to listen, share, and contribute a small part to motivating students to overcome difficulties and excel in their studies, and to alleviate some of the hardships of people in remote areas. This is also how we spread the social responsibility of young journalists today.”

Through their concrete actions, the team of journalists at Long An Newspaper and Radio and Television Station not only fulfills their professional duties but also spreads profound humanistic values, contributing to building a united and compassionate community, where journalists are not just news providers but also companions and share in life.
