According to an announcement from the British government, Ms. Cooper will hold talks with her British counterpart Wang Yi and Chinese Vice President Han Zheng on June 2nd. Following that, the British Foreign Secretary will travel to Shenzhen, China's leading technology hub, to participate in activities focused on science and technology.
The visit took place a few months after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer's trip to China in January. During that meeting, Prime Minister Starmer and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to boost cooperation in trade, investment, and technology, marking an effort to improve bilateral relations after years of tension. Starmer also became the first British Prime Minister to visit China in eight years.
Prime Minister Starmer's Labour government now considers strengthening ties with China a key foreign policy priority, while also seeking to boost the slowing British economy .

According to an announcement from the British government, after concluding her work program in China, Ms. Cooper is expected to travel to India on June 4th. There, she will meet with the host country's Foreign Minister, S. Jaishankar, as well as representatives from the business community, academics, and partners involved in the implementation of the "UK-India Vision 2035" initiative, a long-term cooperation framework between the two countries.
Last year, the UK and India signed a Free Trade Agreement aimed at boosting trade and expanding market access between the two sides. However, the implementation of the agreement has recently been hampered by new UK restrictions on steel imports.
The British government emphasized that Foreign Secretary Cooper's visit to Asia's two major economic powers would focus on coordinating efforts to address the most pressing global challenges today, while also strengthening international economic, scientific and technological, and security cooperation.
