The U22 Vietnam players are actively training at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center, to prepare for the Southeast Asian U23 Championship, the Asian U23 qualifiers and further the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year in Thailand.
At the training session this afternoon (May 31), leaders of the Vietnam Football Federation were also present to visit and encourage the young players.
This time, U22 Vietnam still lacks Dinh Bac's service due to not recovering from a broken toe injury, however, key players who have fought in many youth tournaments such as Thai Son, Quoc Viet or Van Truong are still present.
Notably, this training session includes the appearance of Vietnamese-American player Bui Alex, who is playing for the B team Bohemians Praha 1905 in the Third Division of the Czech Republic.
The player born in 2005 is 1m78 tall, playing versatilely in the positions of attacking midfielder, winger and striker. He is considered a player with good personal technique, high speed, the ability to control the ball and distribute the ball effectively, and can shoot accurately with both feet.
He and Viktor Le are two overseas Vietnamese players of U22 Vietnam.
In the goalkeeper position, in addition to Cao Van Binh, there are two other players, Pham Dinh Hai and Hoa Xuan Tin, who have played well in the youth levels of Vietnamese football. However, in this afternoon's training session, because Dinh Trieu was injured, Cao Van Binh was called up to replace him in the national team.
Interim coach Dinh Hong Vinh continues to lead U22 Vietnam in this training session.
The draw for the U23 Southeast Asian Championship puts us in a favorable group when we only have to face Laos and Cambodia. This is also the tournament where U23 Vietnam is the most successful team with two consecutive cup wins in 2022 and 2023.
"Even though we are in Group B with weaker teams like Cambodia and Laos, we cannot be complacent. We will be determined to compete against any opponent, so the team is not surprised by the draw results," midfielder Van Truong shared.
According to the plan, U22 Vietnam will continue to practice at the Vietnam Youth Football Training Center until June 6. This is part of the strategy deployed early by the Vietnam Football Federation to help players build their playing style and create a cohesive team for upcoming tournaments.
