The Cong - Viettel recruits 18-year-old Vietnamese-American player Lee Williams.

Following the trend of opening doors to overseas Vietnamese players in the V-League, The Cong - Viettel Club has brought in Lee Williams from England.

After nearly two weeks of trials, The Cong - Viettel Club decided to sign a contract with Vietnamese-American player Lee Williams. The team officially introduced this new recruit on August 9th at their headquarters in Hoa Lac ( Hanoi ).

Lee Williams was born in 2007, with an English father and a Vietnamese mother. He is 1.9m tall and can play as a center forward and attacking midfielder.

Before returning to Vietnam, Lee Williams played for Warrington FC in the National League North (the sixth tier of English football). The highest level of his career was the English League Cup, where he played for Stockport FC (2024-2025 season).

"At just 18 years old, Lee Williams has made a strong impression with his ball control, tactical thinking, and potential to become an outstanding attacking player in the future," The Cong - Viettel Club reported.

The head coach of The Cong - Viettel, Velizar Popov, affirmed: "I believe Williams has great potential to become a star in the V-League. At 18 years old, he has plenty of time to learn and develop."

Before signing Lee Williams, The Cong - Viettel recruited three Vietnamese-American players: Kyle Colonna, Damian Vu Thanh An, and Tomas Duong Thanh Tung. Of these, Duong Thanh Tung already held Vietnamese citizenship.

Due to the V-League regulations limiting the number of overseas Vietnamese players to just two, the military team will not be able to use Lee Williams immediately in the first phase. It's possible Lee will be loaned out to gain more playing experience and quickly adapt to the Vietnamese football environment.

The Thể Công - Viettel club affirmed that Lee Williams is part of a comprehensive strategy to prepare for the team's near future. This is also the tenth signing for the military team before the season, demonstrating their ambition and determination to return to the V-League championship.
