At this time, in the fields of Vu Quang ( Ha Tinh province ), farmers are busy preparing the land to meet the production schedule for the 2024 spring rice crop.
Plows are busy tilling the land on a large-scale model farm in Binh Quang village (Lien Chau commune).
This year's spring rice crop has brought joy to the people of Binh Quang, Tan Le, and Lien Chau villages (Duc Lien commune), who are receiving their plots in the large-scale model rice fields, which have been invested in with a modern internal irrigation system. The atmosphere of labor in the fields these days is more urgent and bustling than ever before.
In the fields below, plows are busy tilling the soil; on the banks, excavators are being mobilized to build embankments, ensuring favorable conditions for agricultural production for the farmers. This is a rice paddy area where Duc Lien commune has recently implemented land consolidation to prepare for the 2024 spring crop.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nam (Binh Quang village, Duc Lien commune) happily shared: “Our villagers have just completed the lottery to receive their land. This production season, my family has 6 sao (approximately 0.6 hectares) in the large-scale model rice field. Seeing the flat fields and the modernly invested irrigation canals, the villagers are very excited. Now, there are no more uneven fields like before; the comprehensively invested irrigation system will help us sow and plant more conveniently. Hopefully, this spring harvest will be more bountiful than previous ones.”
Duc Lien commune mobilized excavators to build embankments, ensuring agricultural production for the local people.
Reportedly, Duc Lien commune is the first locality in the mountainous district of Vu Quang to implement the removal of field boundaries on an area of nearly 70 hectares in order to carry out the policy of land conversion and reduce the number of plots in a field.
Mr. Le Van Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Duc Lien commune, said: “In implementing Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated November 18, 2021, of the Provincial Party Committee on leading and directing the concentrated consolidation of agricultural land associated with the construction of new rural areas in the period 2021-2025 and subsequent years, the district has selected the local rice paddy area for implementation. To date, after nearly 5 months of implementation, the locality has leveled nearly 70 hectares of rice paddy land in the Dong Voi area belonging to three villages: Binh Quang, Tan Le, and Lien Chau. Currently, the land allocation to the people has been completed.”
People in Duc Linh commune are heading to the fields to build embankments to retain water and weed in preparation for planting the spring rice crop.
Not only in Duc Lien commune, but at this time, all localities in Vu Quang district are focusing on preparing the land and developing irrigation systems to meet the production schedule for the spring rice crop.
In Duc Linh commune, local people and authorities are focusing on dredging irrigation canals in the fields. The pumping system and sluice gate opening and closing mechanisms are also being maintained, repaired, and serviced to meet the irrigation and drainage needs of the farmers. To date, the commune has basically completed 100% of the dredging of the irrigation canal system, ready to serve the spring crop production.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Tham (Cua Linh village, Duc Linh commune) said: "This year, the irrigation system was implemented early, and the water supply for production is abundant, so my family is less burdened than before. This season, my family is cultivating 8 sao (approximately 0.8 hectares), and we have finished preparing the land. Now we are just waiting for the planting season to begin."
For the 2024 spring rice crop, Vu Quang district aims to plant 1,270 hectares of rice.
According to the 2024 spring crop production plan, Vu Quang district aims to plant 1,270 hectares of rice; nearly 100 hectares of various vegetables and fruits; and over 500 hectares of various types of corn.
Mr. Phan Xuan Nam, Head of the Agriculture and Rural Development Department of Vu Quang district, said: “For rice production, this year, the district will not allocate more than 30% of the area to a single variety. Common varieties that have been cultivated for many years and have stable yields, such as N98, Khang Dan, and Xuan Mai 12, will continue to be used. In addition, high-yielding, high-quality varieties such as DT39, CT16, Thai Xuyen, BT09, and ADI 168 will continue to be prioritized. According to the planting schedule, the entire district will begin sowing and transplanting spring rice from January 15, 2024, and finish before February 8, 2024.”
People in Vu Quang are busy in the fields producing the spring rice crop.
According to Mr. Nam, with decisive leadership, preparations for the new crop season in the district are currently progressing quite smoothly. Localities are simultaneously implementing irrigation projects; focusing on digging, dredging, and clearing the waterways of canals and ditches.
To date, the plowed area in the district has reached over 90%; the volume of irrigation canal excavation and embankment in the district has reached over 95% of the plan.
