If the rice is planted, it will die, uproot to take advantage of planting melons. In turn, melons are not large or large without fruiting, when they do, the fruit cannot be eaten… This strange situation is happening in the fields of 5 villages of An Tan commune, Thai Thuy district, Thai Binh province.

People believe that the reason is because the Management Board of An Tan Agricultural Service Cooperative and the irrigation unit opened sluices to prevent salt water from entering the field, causing salt poisoning. But the People's Committee of An Tan commune and Thai Thuy district have not recognized this cause.
According to farmers, up to this point, about 176ha of rice and crops of more than 1.000 households in the commune have been damaged, the damage rate is about 70%. Of the remaining 30% (not dead), only about 30% are harvested, the remaining 70% have plants without seeds, or have seeds that cannot be eaten because of bitterness.
Many farmers have submitted applications to the commune, but the commune cannot handle it, so they continue to send applications to the district to request the authorities to intervene and investigate.
On the morning of May 31, a reporter from SGGP Newspaper transferred information about this phenomenon to the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan.
