Ms. Thien's simple, one-story house is located in the K20 revolutionary base area, a national historical site. On the walls hang certificates and commendations recognizing her contributions. Most recently, she received a commendation from the Chairman of the People's Committee of the city for her outstanding achievements in implementing ethnic affairs and ethnic policies during the 2019-2024 period. At 43 years old, she has nearly 20 years of experience in social work, including 8 consecutive years as a neighborhood group leader. Having been involved in this role, she understands her responsibilities: not only managing the population and implementing policies, but also caring for the lives of each household.
Every day, she spends a lot of time going from street to street, knocking on every door to visit and understand people's concerns. From encouraging residents to maintain environmental hygiene, visiting the elderly, helping poor households, to resolving problems in the neighborhood, she is dedicated to every task. "Being a neighborhood leader is not just a job of management, but also a responsibility to the community. I always strive to make the neighborhood a livable place, where everyone feels connected and cared for," Ms. Thien shared.
Not only did she perform her assigned duties well, but Ms. Thien also proactively created many effective ways to promote community activities. One of the most effective actions was mobilizing residents to maintain general hygiene and voluntarily clear drainage ditches on the streets during the rainy season to prevent flooding.
She actively promoted the removal of illegal advertisements, urging each household to remove them themselves to maintain urban aesthetics. As a result, residential area 36 no longer has advertisements plastered on utility poles and fences as before. Recently, she launched the "Flower and Flag Street" campaign, which received enthusiastic support from residents. The streets in the area are now brightly decorated and cleaner, contributing to a more civilized urban landscape.
Neighborhood Group 36 is one of the most densely populated residential areas in the ward, with over 500 permanent and temporary residents. Ensuring security and order, and managing the population are crucial tasks that Ms. Thien always prioritizes. She regularly updates information on population changes, requires landlords to fully declare temporary residency, and cooperates with the local police to monitor security. As a result, the neighborhood remains stable, free from theft and social vices. Thanks to her close supervision, Neighborhood Group 36 is consistently one of the safest areas in Khue My ward.
What makes Ms. Thien beloved by the community is not only her enthusiasm and responsibility but also her compassionate heart. She is always ready to help the poor, mobilizes benefactors to support impoverished households, and awards scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds. Thanks to her timely care and support, residential area 36 now has no impoverished households and no children dropping out of school.
Mr. Nguyen Chung, Secretary of the Da Man 5 Party Branch, commented: “Ms. Thien is an exemplary neighborhood leader, dedicated to her work. With a large area and a large population, the job is very stressful, but she always completes her tasks excellently. All the movements in neighborhood group 36 achieve good results, and the local government has great confidence in her leadership.”
Learning from President Ho Chi Minh's simple, concrete, and people-oriented teachings, Ms. Thien is one of the silent "keepers of the flame," spreading the spirit of unity, responsibility, and love to every resident in the neighborhood.
